Eh, not the first time he's been fuzzy, even within that piece; for example, he doesn't't have a handle on how blasphemy can differ from hate speech

Ron Paul:

This is pretty obscene, when it comes to violence, and libertarians are pretty annoyed by anybody who initiates violence
But in the context of things, France has been a target for many, many years, because they’ve been involved in foreign affairs in Libya, and they really prodded us along in — recently in Libya, but they’ve been involved in Algeria, so they’ve had attacks like this, you know, not infrequently. So, it does involve, you know, their foreign policy as well. When people do this, you know, the rejection of the violence has to be made, and with that I agree.”
I put blame on bad policy that we don’t fully understand, and we don’t understand what they’re doing because the people who are objecting to the foreign policy that we pursue, they do it from a different perspective,” Paul added. “They see us as attacking them, and killing innocent people, so yes, they, they have — this doesn’t justify, so don’t put those words in my mouth — it doesn’t justify, but it explains it.

Also, it appears that the youngest suspect has surrendered, but the two others are at large.

Saudi Arabia called it a “cowardly terrorist attack that was rejected by the true Islamic religion”. The Arab League and Egypt’s al-Azhar university – the leading theological institution in the Sunni Muslim world – also denounced the incident in which masked gunmen shouted “Allahu Akbar” – “god is great ” in Arabic.

Iran, Jordan, Bahrain, Morocco, Algeria and Qatar all issued similar statements.

No organisation claimed responsibility for the attack but supporters of the Islamic State (Isis), the militant organisation that now controls large parts of Iraq and Syria, welcomed it on social media, using Arabic language hashtags including “our revenge for the messenger (Muhammad)”, “Paris is Burning”, “Paris under Fire” and the “Lions of Tawheed [monotheism]”.

I know this is just a joke, but real progressives and libertarians have plenty of common ground in social issues. I agree with TV and mostly with Paul.

Also, your link was great. Thanks for sharing.

I was sort of joking. Also, Ron (or is it Rand?) Paul isn't really a libertarian. And he's definitely not a Libertarian.

So is it a foregone conclusion that it will be either a Clinton or a Bush again in the White House? If that happens, I may seriously move to Europe for a while.

It's interesting when these high profile things happen, how people unify and try to be of one-voice. But unfortunately, there never seems to be a follow up. To change policies. People want to end violence, but then they just become more violent. More militarized. I'm sure the reactionaries and xenophobes of France will bubble to surface now. Germany has terrible economic policies that have ruined Greece, Spain and others -- and what often happens, is the "blame it on outsiders" is what distracts the common Joe out of work or with no prospects. Iceland gets no coverage but amazing what has taken place there. They wrote a new constitution and put bankers and neo-cons in jail!

Some good insights on Democracy Now today.

Here's a great interview with Bob Pollan of PERI, (he's the son of former Wizards and Capitals owner Abe Pollan) talking about Germany and European economic issues.
