NJ is going to have to pass a similar tax over the next few years if we like having our bridges not fall into water. The TTF is empty.

NJ would still probably have the lowest gas prices in the NE though.

So, can someone explain the benefits/realities of what the TPP would like? Shit like this is not encouraging:

According to these leaked documents, the TPP would empower corporations to directly challenge laws and regulations set by foreign nations before an international tribunal. The tribunal would be given the authority to not only overrule that nation's legal standards but also impose economic penalties on it. Under World Trade Organization treaties, corporations must convince a sovereign nation to bring trade cases before an international court. Chomsky said the deal is an escalation of neoliberal political goals previously advanced by the WTO and the North American Free Trade Agreement

police in NY largelly not policing, for the second week in a row

this may backfire, as people many of hte interactions that were unnecessary to deal with crime are also being being swept up in this non-policing effort. people may start to like it and if felony crimes stay low, wonder what the hell was the point of broken windows.

I find it hard to believe that there were no traffic violations in the city of New York.

Some of the NJ stations I went by yesterday were LUDICROUSLY overcrowded, but I think that has more to do with the price at which they had gas relative to even their competitors than it does with the PA tax hike, since none of the stations I am thinking of are particularly close to PA.

So, roughly, you save about 30 cents for gas in Jersey. If you buy 20 gallons, that's 6 bucks. There are usually tolls, which cut into your savings, plus time. Hardly seems worth it unless you're in Jersey anyway.

Yeah, I don't get why people go crazy over saving a few cents on gas. Yes, you want to accumulate fuel points at your local grocery stores and use the cheapest in your area, but you sure as hell don't want to consume 1 or 2 gallons of gas driving to a gas station twenty minutes from your house. You just wasted your savings and your time.

I do understand that a gas tack is about as regressive as they come, outside of urban areas. On the other hand, in real dollars, it's probably much lower than it's been in quite awhile, since it's typically assessed per gallon, not as a percentage of the price of gallon.

The tax was on wholesale, prices haven't changed for me yet. I'm not saying that cost won't eventually be passed to consumer, but it wasn't a flat tax at the pump.

I meant to ask what the argument for an international tribunal where corporations can sue to overturn national laws is.

2 more years, with fading hope that anyone will get on the Prez Biden train - if you're a Dem pol with female relatives, & you're planning any kind of event, you do NOT want Uncle Joe finding out about it
