Also, Yougov did a poll today polling only people who said they voted (but not a conventional exit poll) and the results came in 54/46 for no.

The U.S. Justice Department investigation into New Jersey Gov.Chris Christie’s role in “Bridgegate” has thus far uncovered no information he either knew in advance or directed the closure of traffic lanes on the George Washington Bridge, federal officials tell NBC 4 New York.

The September 2013 closures -- where several entrance lanes to the George Washington Bridge in Ft. Lee were shut down causing a traffic nightmare for commuters -- has been the subject of several federal and state investigations.

Federal officials caution that the investigation begun nine months ago is ongoing and that no final determination has been made, but say that after nine months authorities have uncovered no information Christie either knew in advance or ordered the closure of traffic lanes.

Are these the same feds who are hiding Obama's control of the IRS audits?

Love this:

Declaration times for the Scottish independence referendum are difficult to forecast owing to the lack of precedents.

The times given below have been drawn up after consulting the 32 Scottish councils, many of which did not wish to give formal estimates.

These can only be taken as a rough guide and may be subject to change throughout the night.

line
Declaration times by council area
Comhairle nan Eilean Siar - 02:00 (There were concerns this may be delayed as fog was causing problems at Stornoway airport earlier)

In other words, fuck off bbc, not to mention cnn.

I'm sorry, jersey, but that's not the story. One, I don't think they have received cooperation from any of the people who were clearly involved in "bridgegate" in which case calling any investigation complete is a joke. And mostly I don't know of anyone except a small segment of the most virulent anti-Christie-ites who think he said-"shut down those lanes!" But I also don't know anyone except maybe you that doesn't believe he put vengeful political hacks in valuable public positions who thought they were carrying out the sort of thing their own spiteful and mean-spirited boss would approve of or that believe he had no inkling or curiosity that anyone in his administration had been involved until he lied about this very fact months later. The truth will out eventually though, probably, unless enough has been spent to buy people's silence.

I'm actually fine with putting this story behind us though, and concentrating on how the pro-jobs, budget minded Governor with the plan for Atlantic city and who was going to personally make sure of Sandy recovery has managed to screw up in all these areas, while still managing to reduce services, kill affordable housing movements and undermine environmental protection. It's an outstanding "best of both worlds' record.

But sure, let's all hail him for not getting caught

looks like all of the cities had fairly low turnouts. 75-80%. a second counsel has reported heavily for the no's. not looking good for an independent scotland.

Why would BBC America have some stupid cooking show on? UK deserves to fall apart if leadership has that kind of judgment. And this Aberlour is outstanding. Can't watch election results without whiskey.

"Not committing a crime" is a pretty low standard to hold politicians to, even if so many of them have trouble meeting it.

I'm not even certain a crime was committed at all, but sadly it looks like threat of criminal conviction is the only thing that will possibly provoke people to fess up about their roles, even if at first it delays it. though, as I say, it's Christie's denial after the fact that will most likely get him in hot water, despite the attempts to frame the question otherwise.

Again, it doesn't really matter, it's his record that will skewer him on the national stage. I used to have mixed feelings when I knew he was a blustering, scheming bully, but perhaps a pragmatic, effective one. It's rather sad what he's become now.

re: the currently running Burns series on the Roosevelts, is this the place where I propose that Ken Burns be forbidden by law to add a narrative track to any of his future documentary offerings?

It's his insipid, inaccurate, sappy, stupid worldview, yes, but Peter Coyote's oracular intonation doesn't help one little teeny tiny bit

How can someone with Burns' visual acuity be so vacuous otherwise?
