We worked the township "shredding event" today, where they had two of those big shredding trucks. The way it worked was the cars would pull up, and we'd grab their boxes/bags and dump them into big wheeled trash cans. When the can was full, the truck operator would push the can into the conveyer-thingy and the can would raise up and dump into the shredding augers. There are even interior cameras where you can see the shredding happening on the control panel LED screen.

I mention all this because I was surprised at the number of people who wouldn't leave without seeing their stuff go into the shredder. Like we were gonna rifle through the cans when they pulled away. I'm guessing these were the folks finally getting rid of all their polaroids from the 70's.
