At least seven building collapses have made headlines in Philadelphia since the June 5 Market Street catastrophe that left six people dead and injured 13. Swanson said last week that the department cannot say how many other buildings have collapsed in recent years because incident descriptions are stored in a nonsearchable, nonretrievable database. L&I plans to have a new database operational by the end of 2015.

Well I ASSume that whenever a building collapse occurs the fire department is dispatched. and I KNOW for a fact that the fire department has an NFIRS (National Fire Incident Reporting System) database system installed. And I also know for a fact that company officers are responsible for entering incidents into said system and get dinged if they fail to enter their company's reports. And I know this database is searchable (although extremely poorly designed, breaks just about every rule of data normalization). So you think this L&I guys would just say "hey Lloyd, can one of your grunts get me a report of all the building collapses we've had in the past 5 years"?

Or is that crossing a union boundary or something??

BTW, WTF is a "Nonsearchable, nonretrievable database" anyway? It sounds like the shredder.

Seemed to be slightly above replacement level in there, but it was the Wednesday early evening crew. I'll have to take a swing through there another day and scout it out.
