last week got an email from my dentist asking me to confirm my appointment (for today). clicked the link, confirmed.

they left an automated voicemail saturday
they left an automated voicemail sunday
they left a live voicemail yesterday
they sent an automated text this morning

i got there and told them this would be my last visit to their office

it's actually the same thing that's happened my last 3 appointments, and i've complained about it then. i guess i really needed to mention that in my rant.

about 4 years. former dentist had a real small family type place. he got sick and his hygienist, office manager, and assistant got gigs at this new place, in exchange for his patient list. Now only the assistant remains. I've never been crazy about the place- always trying to upsell. I feel like I'm in a new car showroom when the ask me if i want the ultra clean treatment or what have you. They started to bring a dental surgeon in one night a week and saturdays (I'm sure moonlighting from somewhere else) and they wanted me to see him to get my wisdom teeth out. I explained no, I need to see someone weekdays. But they actually scheduled me to see him without my knowledge or consent and started the same round of "confirmations". I never confirmed then they asked me why i was a no-show.

I read somewhere that there are too many dentists, and so I wouldn't be surprised if they're chasing customers and even doing things like unnecessary extractions.

my dentist was my dad's college roommate. he doesnt give me the upsell and they only call once ahead of time to inform me of my coming appointment. i'm not exactly a moneymaker for them, though, as i've only ever had my wisdom teeth taken out when i was 18 and had one cavity when i was 10 years old.
