not that big, but neither is your gallbladder. the medical staff that worked with me seemed to think mine was one of the biggest they'd ever seen. it blocked up the flow of my gallbladder so badly that the bladder expanded from its typically paper-thin size to what they described as about half the thickness of a Reader's Digest. but the stone itself was probably about the size of a peanut.

oh also your body takes a short period of time to adjust to losing the bladder (from here on out, your liver will take care of bile storage and it's not really a long-term issue because it can handle the job) because your bile becomes less concentrated. so for a couple weeks i was filling up on meals especially quickly compared to pre-surgery. so you'll probably lose some weight because of that, which is a nice side effect. it also made getting drunk easier but that mighta been the percocets.

Have a phone interview in an hour and a half. Barely any sleep last night. This should go well.

i did! i dunno why you're home except that maybe your gallstones aren't nearly as big as mine were. i was on morphine drip for an hour or so with little positive effect before they x-rayed me, anesthetized me and did laparoscopic surgery to take the whole gall bladder out. after that things were pretty good; i woke up from the surgery with no major problems, took percocets and anti-inflammatories for a few weeks and all told it was a nice summer after that. but man, the pain leading up to the surgery was horrible. i've never felt anything nearly as excruciating as that.

best of luck to you; if they let you keep the gallstone i'd go for it because apparently they sell well in the Asian aphrodisiac market. i have a suspicion my doctor pocketed mine.

Home from the ER. was there all morning starting at 3 am ish. I have to call the surgeon and set up an appointment. Don't know why they just didn't do it while I was there either.

This was like my 5th or 6th incident. I ally decided something was probably wrong and it was more than gas.

But yeah. Unbearable pain. No matter how you sit or bend it doesn't go away.

Thanks pal. Apparently it's a pretty common thing to get. No exact reason why people get them either and it's more common in women.

In the meantime, you prolly know that folks w/ gallbladdder problems avoid alcohol and fatty foods, especially those 2 things together. I imagine that applies if you have stones, too?

I was speed shoveling this morning, just enough to get to the car to go to the Dr.

Hit the doormat and the shovel stuck on my "throw" stroke

Really want one of these enterprising college kids I hear about to show up. I think I'd go up to $60 to shovel that damned driveway.

that sounds right. I remember my severe abdominal pain starting up the day after St. Patrick's Day earlier that year. I went to campus health services because I could barely walk the pain was so bad. They gave me metamucil and put me on a bland diet that I adhered to for a few weeks. The pain went away for a couple months then came back with a vengeance. I put myself back on the bland diet and that seemed to help temporarily but it kept coming back until I was pretty much incapacitated one day. My friend offered to drive me to the hospital, and they did the metamucil treatment there. It predictably did absolutely nothing for me, and even the morphine they hooked me up to really just made it so I could lay down normally without balling up in the fetal position to cope with the pain. So yeah, at least with me it was something that took a while to build up. Good thing I went to the doctor to get some fucking metamucil, right
