I guess this explains why Republicans are already attacking H Clinton. If they need to collect most of the white vote to win, then she is real trouble for them. This is a swing area and she is extremely popular among blue collar Dems here, especially older women.

She will certainly do much better than Obama in Arkansas.

At the same time the Republicans are attacking, they're also developing a narrative that she's the only plausible candidate for the Dems.

I don't think she's a great option for the Dems. It's funny, because it seems the Republicans have been working on anti-Hillary strategies for decades, but they never get to use them.

Another interesting possibility, but he seriously seems to have absolutely no interest whatsoever in the job is Arkansas's own Mike Beebe. Even after 6 years, his approval ratings in the state are sky high. I don't know if he's all that great, but he's unbelievably popular. He's a better governor than Clinton or Huckabee were. He has a knack for connecting with young voters--even, maybe especially, bros.

Eliot Spitzer returns to politics as a candidate for NYC comptroller

Clearly, we're in a forgiving mood in NYC. When my wife mentioned to me tonight that Spitzer was going to run, I said "I'd work for him." Essentially he's proposing to make that office a higher-profile, presumably better resourced addition to the policy research and analysis community where I spent the bulk of my career.

He's going to self-finance, which should be interesting because his opponent, Scott Stringer, is an earnest Manhattan liberal from central casting--a pretty good guy, far as I can tell, with some family connection to Scarlett Johannson, his most visible supporter. (His events are unusually well attended for this reason.) Wall Street, of course, despises Spitzer and many think the banks played some role in his getting caught. They'd want to help Stringer, but he'd erode his own brand by accepting their support.

Spitzer should have fought to stay governor. Many politicians have done much worse and been far more hypocritical (Senator Vitter anyone?) and stayed in office.

I don't see any scandal here, do you?
