Also, the NAACP and Coke have had a good relationship for a long time. Coke had one of the most progressive white CEO's for like 20 years.

Jackson and Sharpton aren't ancillary figures in all this. They've both run for president and are probably the two most prominent "leaders of the black community" in America today.

So I saw a bumper sticker on the way to work this morning that was "NObama" superimposed on a confederate flag. It was pretty faded too, so it might've been from the 2008 election cycle.

Do I need to add that it was on the back of a beat-up pickup truck?

Yes, if by "today" you mean 1990 or so. Sharpton's a bad tv personality and Jesse hardly shows up at all anymore.

There's a longer and worthwhile argument about the role and value of the "civil rights movement" after the fall of Jim Crow and especially the election of Barack Obama, but you're not really adding to it here.

Toure of The Cycle is more relevant than Jesse Jackson these days.

the point is that black people probably consider him to be just as much, if not more, of a leader/role model for the black community than they do al sharpton and jesse jackson

Careful there matey... he is in Richmond, capital of the Confederacy, there is very little of that BS here in NVA. We are not free of general stupidity, but RPF is a lot closer to 'a still in every house' country.
