Not disenfranchised, just wanting their tax dollars to be spent well.

Fuck yeah. Whenever I see any of those Pell grant kids at college drinking beer I just go apeshit.

Most social welfare money goes to folks who need it, but some goes to people gaming the system. And some of the money going to people who need it is spent irresponsibly, which shouldn't be surprising since some people who find themselves relying on welfare to get by stink at making choices. Doesn't mean the programs should be abandoned necessarily, and the people who need the help should be punished because others are assholes. I wish jeff2sf was alive.

In any case it has nothing to do with people being enfranchised and disenfranchised, unless you or Bucky are making some pop culture reference or pun that I missed.

it's not really government's place to say what the money should be spent on. once it is their money, it's their money. the only things government has decided is illegal is mind-altering items. i have searched for fraud. how they spend money isn't fraud. fraud is faking eligibility or overcharging medicaid.

anyway, i have little doubt that what she thinks is welfare is not, in fact, welfare. i also doubt she knows the eligibility requirements for SNAP, or that people dont need to give up all their previous possessions once they qualify for such programs.

in six years i've yet to have a 'tip' from the welfare fraud tip line actually be valid or from someone who knows what is and isn't allowed.

Pretty sure I know what Bucky was getting at, but I'll let him elaborate if he wants. My comment, though, was just meant to focus on the fact that being jealous or angry at random people who may or may not be on some form of public assistance appearing to be too happy or well off to suit somebody is a pretty petty, mean way to live. I mean, I'm pretty sure this person isn't referring to a specific well known case of Gucci sunglassed bellbottom wearing fraudsters, whose economic situation they're completely familiar with. Condemn the crooks by all means, though I tend to reserve most of it for people like Vincent Fumo and his ilk who use OPM to build multi-million dolar personal empires, rather than someone who manages to have enough left over for a trendy pair of acid-washed.

Mostly I'd like to say that drinking a couple Flying Fish Redfish in succession is quite tasty, but in the morning can cause one to perhaps regret posting "political" thoughts in the random thoughts thread.

Professor,

This is, I just wanted to let you know that I mistakenly only answered five questions on the first part of the final exam. I read the directions, but at some point in the exam I began thinking the first part needed only five questions and only realized my mistake after I got back to my house. I completely take responsibility for my mistake, I just wanted to ask you if there is anything that can be done at this point. If not, I understand.

Thanks for your time,

Already sent this. I was one of maybe 3 or 4 students with a flat A in the class going into the final, and now this could drop me as low as a C or D probably. My gpa is going to get fucked so hard.

Not to be harsh, but you're supposed to be a grown up. Since when did your problem become my problem? Especially since you seem to have no interest in even trying to solve your own problem? Not saying that's your situation nightman, but at this point in the semester I'm pretty tired and cranky.

I've got this student who's been mostly coming to class, but hasn't handed in any work, and her excuse is "my roommate's boyfriend stole my book." And? File a police report? Buy another copy of the book? Borrow one from a friend? See if you can find other editions of the reading in the library? No? Why is this my problem?

What should I do at this point to solve my own problem? Break into his office and attempt to finish the test? I don't see how to solve it other than just telling him what happened, taking responsibility, and seeing what he says.

Why not loan them a book and then see if the work starts getting done? Seems like an easier solution than acting dickish
