Hope Engel's OK. He's a courageous SOB to be sure.

Because as we all know the most important requirement for someone to be a good person is to agree with pacino politically.

slashed HIV/AIDS funding, wanted to cut help for poor people if a member of the family went on strike for better wages while simulteanously suckling off the teat of the oil companies. he also appears to be dumb, as he does not know what the debt ceiling actually is. what a great guy. hey, at least he sounds like a typical GOP politician at this point. he's in the mainstream of that party.

You did mostly a good job of taking ThinkProgress's bullet points and using your own words. I think you missed the boat a bit on your debt ceiling translation though. Not a lack of understanding on what the debt ceiling is on Scott's part, but calling for impeaching the president for doing something that's constitutionally questionable is what they were making fun of him for I think. Democrats really like calling black Republicans dumb though, so I'm glad you got that in there.

Daniel Inouye just passed away:

Reid recalled a story about Inouye’s son asking him why he had volunteered to fight in War World II, even though the U.S. had declared Japanese Americans ”enemy aliens.” Reid said of Inouye’s response: “He did it for the children. That’s Senator Inouye.”

I think Al Sharpton constantly butchering his guests' names is one of the most entertaining aspects of his show. Tonight, he ended a discussion by calling a Michigan state congressman 'Dana Milbank'.

he also thinks the biggest minority in the country are christians. that's a whole lot of dumb for a whole lot of reasons and pretty much easy for me to write him off as pretty much dumb. he's dumb because he's dumb, not because he's black. he's also appears to be an anti-gay bigot. so there's that too. at some point you can't just oppose the truth and say it's like your opinion, man that gays don't deserve any rights because of what this book here that didn't say what i think it said said.

and no, it would appear plenty of people don't know what the debt ceiling is, and i don't see where he knows that it has nothing to do with our spending levels and where we set them.

and yes, i do read Think Progress. it's pretty good.

Back in Italy, the 442nd was assaulting a heavily defended hill in the closing months of the war when Lieutenant Inouye was hit in his abdomen by a bullet which came out his back, barely missing his spine. He continued to lead the platoon and advanced alone against a machine gun nest which had his men pinned down. He tossed two hand grenades with devastating effect before his right arm was shattered by a German rifle grenade at close range. Inouye threw his last grenade with his left hand, attacked with a submachine gun and was finally knocked down the hill by a bullet in the leg.

Richard Engel and his crew escaped 5 days after being kidnapped by Syrian loyalists. They're in Turkey, unharmed and in good spirits.

wish I wasn't learning about my US senators in the way I'm learning about them this week. Not convinced either are worth learning much about.

The rookie Murphy has the edge on handling public appearances, by not being as bad as Blumenthal. Blumenthal tries hard. really really hard. He's the least-adept at the public part of politics of any lifelong politician I can think of, and I can think of guys like Richard Nixon.
Yes, but in a double utley you can put your utley on top they other guy's utley, and you're the winner. (Swish)
