Virtually no line. Showed my ID, recited my address, submitted my Democratic ballot while voting no to the two Constitutional amendments on VA's ballot.

I kind of wish they asked me for ID, or at the very least not hand me a book that shows me an example of my signature right next to where I have to forge mine for today.

That does seem weird as there seems to be a simple solution to just hiding it a little with a piece of paper.

Is it about making sure the signature looks like the one they have on file, or the signature just confirming that you voted?

I signed mine real sloppily

I was #8 in my polling place and there was a huge line. It was funny…everyone lined up at the locked door and I just walked in the unlocked door and opened the locked door for everyone. Not sure why no one else did that? SHEEPLE

In my area (Jersey), you're presented with a landscape style book that has three relevant columns - one with your name typed out and maybe some other info (voter ID # and whatnot). The second is a column that has what your signature should look like, presumably scanned and printed from my voter registration. The third column is the blank that I sign today. It'd actually be difficult to cover without a lot of fuss, the way the book is laid out.

There's also another perforated card that I sign and hand to the lady running the voting machine, but that doesn't include a handy "how to forge my signature" guide.

With all of this said, I'm not a conspiracy theorist who expects my vote to be taken from me. I'm just saying the system seems bizarrely loose.

With all due respect, fuck that. It's easy to say that when you're a straight, white male. But there are plenty of hateful, bigoted people* who are trying to make a better country too... just in the completely deplorable way that they see fit. That doesn't mean we should be respectful of their disgusting opinions simply because it's Election Day.

Mitt Romney would rather spit on some of my friends and family than acknowledge that they have a legitimate relationship or that they'd be fine and loving parents. He's a piece of crap for that.

Meh, I wasn't yelling at SK or anything. I've seen that sentiment on FB over and over the past day and a half. People are too quick to throw out the "let's be civil and kind to one another--it's not the Super Bowl" platitudes. No, it's MUCH more important to many people than the damn Super Bowl.

dude

If it makes you feel better, I'm sure Romney would have his position on gay marriage evolve, like Obama, if it became politically advantageous for him to do so. At least that's what I've been told about Mr. Etch-a-Sketch. Right, doc?

What? I'm not saying that we should be yelling at each other over tax policies, and I'm not saying that the world is going to end or the US will descend into fascism/socialism. I'm saying that there ARE reasons to vehemently disagree with each other and not everyone's concept of "making a better country" should be respected.

There's a world of difference.

Dude(s)! Let's set up BSG Election Day Bingo.

"Selected Not Elected"
"Self Righteous Post"
"Diebold"
"Drsmooth Insists Upon Himself"

and so on.

It'll be fun and divisive.

Fair enough. Sorry SK for venting on you in any way. That was not my intent at all. I was merely trying to say that, regardless of the good feelings generated by Election Day, this really ISN'T a situation of "hey we're all working towards the same thing but just disagree on how we get there."
