Honestly, for this debate, I don't care about the independents. We needed to fire up the base and get the dems out to the polls, and I think this is a better way to do that than whatever Obama did last week.

I guess. I don't think Ryan is doing as badly on a performance level as the president did. But he's getting whipped on the substance, and I suspect that most observers will conclude Biden got the better of it.

The other point is that if both bases leave fired up after this, that's an edge for the Democrats. Because right now the Republicans are fired up and the Dems are not, as a result of the president's bed-fouling last week. If Joe gets them back, and Obama is okay or better next week, the race moves back toward where it was pre Oct. 3. Romney needs the current trend to continue, because he's still probably not where he needs to be even after a very good week.
