they would, like any business ever, and it's not just taxes, it's also labor costs during slow periods, just like you said

I worked in a bunch of restaurants and sensed most waiters/waitresses were cool with how they got paid. Fit their lifestyles better than a traditional 9-5 in many cases. What would suck is the diner type of job where you almost never have a big night

my point is you should be properly compensated for slow times. it's not your fault your owner can't advertise or cook correctly.

I'm thinking about doing a trip to Montreal in October. It's like $150 round trip to take the Adirondack train there. Seems like a steal.

That's not bad at all for round trip. I'm actually pretty surprised its that low. Have you been before? I love Montreal, it's one of my favorite cities in NA.

I've never been. I'm thinking that my trips for fall and winter are going to be French themed. Montreal in the fall and New Orleans for Mardi Gras.

I figure I can enjoy the train ride, ie drink, both ways and hotels look to be dirt cheap as well. Need to recruit a friend, but I think this is going to happen.

re: pac

fine, but don't act like that wouldn't raise food costs

(though I don't think the change now would please customers, waiters, or restaurant owners)

My only great strip club experience. The girls were beautiful and you could just sit there with no expectations of tipping or paying for dances.

Yes, the strip clubs are amazing there. Some of the ones just outside town are crazy also, pretty much a free for all. I went to u of Vermont for college, which isnt far from Montreal and we used to go up all of the time, since the drinking age is only 18. Lots of found memories.

However, one way restaurants reward good servers and seniority is by giving those people the good shifts. And there's upselling and all those things servers have an incentive to do that would change. But I still think a restaurant could easily cover those increased costs with a 25% increase in food prices, not 200%.

Those are both great trips. You'll love Montreal and taking the train should be a really nice way to make the trip. You'll have a blast. Makes me wistful for my single days.

I'm jealous. There was only one strip club by the time I got to Penn State. They had free beer but kept that out on the patio, which literally every guy would head to when an unattractive girl took the pole.

Good luck finding someone willing to drive there and back, though.

I know the place you're talking about but the name is escaping me.

Montreal might have the best strip clubs of any place I've been. The women are gorgeous and there are very few rules. Most other places it's one or the other.

End Zone. There was a topless place, too, where the bus station is now, but that was before my time.

I'm pretty sure you can get in with something called an "enhanced driver's license" -- I remember that was a thing when the passport stuff started a few years ago. I'd recommend lanyone to get a passport though because you just never know; it takes a while to get and it can come in very handy.

I think we got them before the price went up in July 2010. Cost us around 45 bucks Mrs.smitty tells me. You can get the card for like 30 bucks-- the enhanced driver's license thing.

It's good for ten years so for 15 bucks a year you can go to foreign countries like Germany, Thailand or Wyoming.

Still a bargain.

I don't think they offer enhanced driver's licences in PA, though. I had one in WA and if I'm remembering correctly it was only valid at the WA-BC border. At the time you had to schedule an in-person appointment to get it, which meant no standing in line at the DMV. And it sure came in handy for the Vancouver Olympics!
