had a guy come around last month hawking his wares. i signed up for my power to come from alternative sources. hope i don't get screwed!

you won't. you're only getting screwed is you're one of the like 25% of PECO/PSEG customers actually buying your power from PECO/PSEG.

i've saved like $7-8/month plus the $100 gift certificate i got at sign-up.

I still pay PECO. And you really mean "broker", not "supplier". PECO still generates 98% of the power consumed in our region. I am morally opposed to power broker (literally) middlemen.

peco generates nothing. they own the transmission lines of electric and power. if they are your provider of power (and gas), that means they're buying gas/electric from Plant A/B for X and then selling it to you for Y.

peco serves like 98% of the people in this area. they don't generate the electric that serves that load (lol).

unless you have like a 2000+sqft house with central air, it's probably not totally worth it without the gift certificate (i.e. i'd save $96/yr otherwise...not "huge" savings as any huge swing in commodity prices could change those "savings", although as long as natural gas prices stay so low [fracking], these prices are going nowhere)

Don't they own and operate the nuclear plant in Limerick? Or at least whoever their parent company is now.

yes, i should have been more specific.."Exelon", of which PECO is a wholly-owned subsidiary due solely to regulations related to 'Energy Choice'. It's not even close to the situation of the "baby Bells", where AT&T and they had to go their separate ways in a clean break. Also, due to said regulations, Exelon is counted as an "independent producer".

So Exelon generates 98% of the power in our region, and I buy it through their wholly-owned subsidiary PECO. I still prefer that than paying less to a "money for nothing" broker company.

I wonder how long it would take solar panels to pay for themselves in S. Arkansas.

At the shore for the week. If one of you college kids wanted to make some easy loot while working on the beach, you should start a business where you are basically a beach bellhop for people with families, where you help them shlep all their kids shit to and from the beach. They'd pay you $5-10 a pop, I'd assume, and you could probably like $200 bucks in a couple of hours. Does this exist anywhere?
