an old woman was walking toward the exit as the train stopped, some punk kid, looked college age, walked by and pushed her so he could get past her and get to the door. there were a bunch of people in front of him at the door, so he was standing there and I said "hey, that's not okay" loudly in his direction, because the woman looked a bit distraught. she didn't fall down or anything, but she looked frazzled. so he turned around, came walking toward me (he was like 5 feet away when i said it)and i was just standing in front of a row of seats. he got like a foot away from me and started dropping f-bombs. i stood there and didn't move and just looked right at him. his buddy grabbed his arm and pulled him off the train before the doors closed. i realized after he got pulled away that my right hand was clenched in to a fist. if he'd have touched me i'd have ripped his heart out of his chest. fucking scumbags who show no respect for anyone at all, including themselves.

Anyone have experience with a room air conditioner like this one?

I need a new air conditioner this year and I kinda like that these can pull double duty as a dehumidifier but don't know anyone who's ever used one.

I have a portable DeLonghi unit. It may have a dehumidifier mode; if so, we've never used it as A/C dehumidifies by its nature and heat and humidity usually go hand-in-hand. It works great as an air conditioner.

My brother has one. They have to be vented through a window. So the tubes and actual unit may not be totally ideal for a smaller space.

FFS, of course it needs vented Calvin. My main concern is noise and effectiveness vs. a window unit of comparable Beety Yous'

Mine is no noisier than I would expect a window unit to be. It effectively cools a fairly large third-floor room that, left alone, gets approximately as hot as the surface of the sun in the summer time. Mine is a 12000 BTU job, I think.
