if a young person were to get into smoking, I'd advise them to start on the menthols, because then you can still bum cigarettes off of other people, but no one will ever want yours

Graceland is probably my least favorite Paul Simon glory era album.

I like it but I think it's the only Simon album I've heard more than once

His first few solo albums all have really the same sound to them. There's no real continuity as far as album themes go but really beautiful guitars, lyrics and harmonies. I dig that bald little man quite a bit.

No rent this month (because I'm moving out and dude just said he'd keep the security deposit for my last payment). Come up!

I've heard a few songs off So Beautiful or So What I like. Rhythm of the Saints was a disappointment--people thought that it was a can't miss concept on the heels of Graceland, with Brazilian music instead of African music. But it just didn't work. Haven't really heard any of the others.

True Story--had a backstage pass for the Graceland concert in Philly. The concert was quite good--Hugh Masekela was featured.

I waved to you from the nosebleed section but you ignored me. Typical. Put a lanyard around a guys neck and he forgets who his imaginary friends will be in twenty years.

I embellished a bit. Turns out there are several levels of back stage passes--I wasn't at lanyard level, I was at cloth sticker level, which meant that after the show my friends and I were herded into a green room where there was no Paul Simon. Hugh Masekela did pop his head in for a minute. Nevertheless, the floor seats were pretty good.

You weren't the poor schlub who handed us a photograph of Paul Simon he had taken years before and requested us to get it autographed were you? Sorry we failed, but like I said, our backstage access was rather limited.

Paul Simon:Simon & Garfunkel :: Paul McCartney:Beatles

What I meant is that Simon and McCartney were both indispensible parts of great groups, but could never capture that kind of success as solo artists.

My analogy wasn't constructed properly. I'm not really sure how to do it.
