I worked "I was so happy at the parade" into the sermon this morning.

I don't suppose you or any of your parishioners routinely videorecord your Easter homilies...?

Did you also work in the Biblical origins of modern Easter traditions?

I think I've gone past the point of no return in my mind about leaving California. I'm either hitting 88mph or going to fall into Shonash Ravine.

Getting out. Never intended to stay here forever, but thought 2-4 years. I'm at 1 and a few months now and ready to bounce.

I think it was the latest state budget talks that got me. Trying to raise the income and sales taxes again. I'm sick of getting robbed every two weeks.

Where I live it's 8.25 right now, where I work is 8.50.

Then I'm in the highest state income tax bracket (yea, that sounds cool until you realize how low the highest bracket is). 9.3% gone.

Add on to the absurd cost of living out here and, I just can't do this any longer than is necessary. I'm doing alright for myself, but I'd be living like a king pretty much anywhere else other than NYC (in terms of making decent cash and not having to work investment banker or corporate lawyer hours). It really bothers me.

Yeah, but there's no state income tax, so your overall tax burden is much lower.

Yeah, welcome to my life in NYC. I'm ready to go, but the wife still loves it.

Tax situation in Arkansas isn't ideal (there's virtually no property tax, so income and sales tax take up the slack) but the cost of living is low. Kruker, if you need help finding a place to live, let me know. Heck, I'll sell you my house--your mortgage, insurance, and taxes will probably be a lot less than you're paying for rent now. And there are wild blackberries all over the yard.

It's really absurd. I've said this here before, but I want to cry when I see the types of places I could rent or own in Austin for 50-75% of my current rent.

I've slowly started the job hunt down there.

Where I live is nothing like Austin. But it's a lot cheaper.

I can't see someone move willingly out of the bay area, I just can't. It's only money Kruker. Maybe if you lived closer to San Francisco, the greatest city on Earth, you might be more willing to put up with the taxes - you seemed much happier when you were living in the Marina. Austin is hot, Austin has no sports teams, Austin is not San Francisco.
