Did insurance ever pay for any expensive treatments? I know you can get insurance but they don't tend to give much coverage.

I looked into pet insurance and read the reimbursement schedules in great detail. The 1200 eye procedure my yorkie had last fall? Insurance would've covered about 400. Or 8 months worth of premiums.

Even with insurance, you're still paying a lot out of pocket and the only way you come out ahead is if your dog has cancer and even then you're paying at least a grand out of pocket instead of maybe 2 or 3 grand.

Well you probably will too, plus you're ugly.

Thanks, that helps.

i've been staying at my parents' house in Northeast Philly for about a week and a half for a couple reasons, mainly because they're in Clearwater this week and my younger sister and our two dogs need company. this means I've gone out with local friends to a few local bars I hadn't been to in years.

tonight, we went out after watching the Flyers and some college ball at my friend's place. we sat down in the front of the bar. by the time i'd gone to the bathroom and come back for my first beer, this drunk-as-hell dude named Blanco (who looked like Johan Santana with a short jheri curl) gave my friend his phone number on a Wawa receipt. we hung out unfettered and I put a bunch of songs on the jukebox. Blanco had vacated his seat but soon walked back through the front door to ask me if I took his keys off the bar. I told him no and he walked out. My friend told me Blanco had asked him twice if I took his keys, which was very strange. we were fairly sure we'd seen him put his keys in his pocket.

about 10 minutes later, the door swung open and Blanco walked up to me with a kitchen knife, something like this:

he held it near me, not quite touching me, but a few inches away from my torso while he told me to give him his keys back. More shocked than anything else, I told him I didn't have his keys and that he should put the knife down. He didn't. He held the knife a little stronger. I told him the bar had security cameras, and if he wanted to check them he could see I didn't take his keys. I told him if he saw on the video that I took his keys, he could cut me. He seemed a little thrown off but he didn't relax the knife. I raised my voice a little, told him to put the fucking knife down, made a phone sign with my hand to my friend. In the meantime my buddy had stood up and said something to him and he yelled at him to back off, more or less.

After I yelled at him, Blanco said he'd be right back and walked out the front door. The bartender had already called 911 so we locked the doors to the bar and I drank my beer. This bar has a really entertaining feature where the cameras in front of the bar show a live feed to a TV screen inside the bar. Usually it's fun to see drunk idiots doing stuff outside, but in this case it added a nice security blanket. About five minutes later, Blanco walked back up to the bar waving his keys in the air. About 10 seconds after he started doing this the cops pulled up outside and stopped him. I wasn't in any mood to go to the district and talk to detectives so the cops just drove him home, leaving his silver 'Bring outside. They searched for a while and couldn't find his knife, so god knows what he did with it.

For the rest of the night, the bartender fed us free shots and beers and every ounce of piss in my body went into his gas tank. It was a good night.
