There was an "Elder Law" class. I never took it.

I'm pretty sure the laws differ from state to state. I think, but don't quote me on this, that the next of kin has full control over what happens to your organs. Even if you have a donor card or mark the box on your driver's license, if your next of kin does not approve, then the hospital won't take the organs. I also think that if the next of kin wishes to donate your organs and you do not, your organs get taken, but I'm not sure about that.

You can override all of that with a living will. That will specify who the person is that has the right to direct the hospital what to do and probably can also specify which organs you're willing to donate and which you wouldn't donate.

I thought the rights of the deceased and the rights of the next of kin were discussed ad nauseam during the Terry Schiavo trials.

My memory of that entails the parents trying to override the directive of the husband through the courts. And since she was still alive, and he wanted to let her pass, it was a unique case.

Mickbayne,

Your rec for Doug Fir was key for me yesterday. Not only a cool bar, but there was a decent show going on when we got there. Also, there were a lot of cool people there and good looking girls, which always helps.

I'm posting this in the random thoughts thread to let you all know how awesome mickbayne is; save your jeff243838s980sassdfsd jokes.

I have three things to do before my 5:40 class. If someone could just do one of them for me, I'd get the other two done no problem.

Glad it worked out. For Portland trips we almost always used to stay at the Jupiter hotel right next to Doug Fir. I actually forgot they have shows there in the downstairs room. Very cool bar.

Can I donate organs while I'm still alive and get a credit. I got an appendix, one kidney, and a spleen good to go.

That hotel seemed really nice. We only went for a day trip. We kept going back and forth between east and west of the river and it seemed like west was more urban, but with less bars.
