as much as i can. we agreed to a pay freeze for next year. i was able to get a midyear increase this year (mainly because of my sabbatical- where i paid for all of my classes with my own money), and i'm going to need it because my wife is staying home all next year. BREADWINNER, BABY!

it's actually really scary, because this pay freeze could conceivably last for a long, long time. if we agreed to it once, there's nothing saying we won't do it again and again (for the greater good).

Yep. If a cyclist is going to claim rights to the road, the s/he should abide by the rules of the road. And then there is the more practical philosophy by which I abide: be courteous and don't make someone have to work to pass you twice. Will I pass someone on the right if they're stopped at a light? Sure, if I know beyond that light there's a large shoulder for me to ride on and the car can continue unimpeded. But if it's just a narrow, single lane ahead, I just sit behind them at the light.
