Fathers Day in New Zealand is the first Sunday in September.

I only know this because I just got an email from something called Gift Barn reminding me "Don't forget Fathers Day" which was a little disorienting until I realized I'd ordered something from them for my aunt and uncle in NZ once.

tried going there once and it was a 90 minute wait on some random Wednesday. do you have reservations?

it's supposed to be #$&! awesome. advice i got from a friend was to take advantage of the waiters' know-how of thviewto ... r#p833092e whiskey selection. don't go in brazen pretending you know what you're talking about. let them guide you.

They don't take reservations and the hosts/hostesses are known to be kinda smarmy in how they deal with you waiting. The best idea is to put your name in, give your cell phone number, and go next door to Tinto to drink at the bar and perhaps a couple spanish apps. Think of it as a progressive dinner. Then get dessert across the way at Capogiro and you're really letting the neighborhood work for you.

The duck fat fries are typically derided for somehow not being crisp despite all the attention/love given them.

bunch of us at work pick a food and then go to like 4 or 5 bars at happy hour to try different versions. Think we're doing burgers next. Village and Good Dog are definitely on the list

I thought the whole massive wait at Village Whiskey thing died down after the first couple months. I tried to go the second day it opened and that didn't work out but the two times I've been since it was no problem. Not sure if either was a Friday, though. I'd actually recommend the Kentucky Hot Brown over the burgers, but maybe I'm just a little burnt out on burgers. The baked oysters are tops, but like 10 bucks for 4 of em, so, y'know. I haven't really gotten to experience their whiskey because I don't really want a hard drink with my meal. Prefer a beer

A bottle of body wash lasts so much longer than bars. At CVS they have these really nice rags (forgetting the brand) that have a really rough exfoliating side and a smoother side that last about a month and are only 2.50 or so. that combo is the way to go

The most recent racist euphemism I learned is Whiskey Tango for when you want to comment on white trash but the white trash might hear

I saw a toupee last night you guys wouldn't believe

Nah, the waits are pretty extensive on weekend nights. Weekday lunches aren't a picnic either with all the expense accounts. But if you go off hours, I'm sure the wait is minimal. Advantage number 47 of living in the city as opposed to a suburban schlub like me.
