Elizabeth Warren brings game to somebody's living room in Massachusetts:

http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/politi ... 032342.php

“I hear all this, you know, ‘Well, this is class warfare, this is whatever,’” she said. “No. There is nobody in this country who got rich on his own. Nobody.

“You built a factory out there? Good for you. But I want to be clear: you moved your goods to market on the roads the rest of us paid for; you hired workers the rest of us paid to educate; you were safe in your factory because of police forces and fire forces that the rest of us paid for. You didn’t have to worry that marauding bands would come and seize everything at your factory, and hire someone to protect against this, because of the work the rest of us did.

“Now look, you built a factory and it turned into something terrific, or a great idea? God bless. Keep a big hunk of it. But part of the underlying social contract is you take a hunk of that and pay forward for the next kid who comes along.”

Interesting question. Honestly, I'd prefer not to know the political leanings of people in sports - they're entitled to their views but it makes it harder for me to root for a guy like Jason Babin when I find out he's pretty much a hardcore conservative.

As for journalists, as far as I am aware Al Michaels, Jim Nance and Al Morganti are self-described Republicans. Are they "conservatives" - don't know. Morganti's from Massachusetts and Michaels from San Francisco so it's hard to imagine them being hardcore red-state types. Nance strikes me as your typical oblivious country club Republican.

Does George F. Will count? Or is he more appropriately a Political writer who dabbles in baseball matters? He is not a TV personality.

I want to marry her. Or at least have the chance to vote for her. Maybe in 2016?

I know there are Republicans and conservatives in sports journalism (I actually saw Jim Nantz at the GOP convention in 2004 so it's funny you mention him), I guess I was trying to get at whether there were any right leaning journalists who voiced their opinions on current events like the guys I listed do. Keri and Neyer aren't exactly mainstream, and I think Eisen has really slowed down his political commentary. But it seems like any time something controversial happens in politics, a handful of the guys I follow for baseball or football news tweet stuff about Republicans being evil. And no one I follow for sports hates on Democrats except some of the folks I listed above who get on them for being too weak in compromising with Republicans.

Thought of two others, not high-profile like Michaels or Nantz. There's a guy named Ron Thulin who used to work for ESPN, he's back in local markets now somewhere in the Sun Belt - I remember reading somewhere that in addition to his sports work he also hosts (or hosted) a conservative political talk show. Syndicated radio Steve Czaban (pretty visible in DC on 980 am) is pretty open about his right-of-center views.

And of course, Sal Paolantonio has worked as a fill-in host for 1210 am - I don't think they accept resumes from liberals there.

Dino Costasomething or other on Sirius/Maddog Radio is pretty right wing and integrates into his sports commentary. His show sucks, but not just because of that.

And I think that's Ronald Reagan's malnourished twin brother in the top right corner.

Bill Clinton points the finger

I find it hard to argue with any of this. Netanyahu couldn't be more despicable, or worse for the long-term viability of Israel.

The Republican candidates' appalling lack of comprehension of any aspect - ANY ASPECT - of the state of our nation's health care apparatus basically should disqualify EVERY ONE of them for the presidency

I feel it should disqualify them from holding any executive office, but let's take one thing at a time

I'd expected Newt to ace out the other jokers on this issue at least; he's had thoughtful people advising him on that subject, and he's shown a decent grasp of it in the past
