called out of work today (well actually it was like 12:30 last night and it was a pretty difficult conversation) and they sent a district sergeant to check on me, make sure i was home (standard procedure, especially when they're annoyed that you called out--which they are, because this is the fourth Sunday I've called out this year)

anyway, my friend answered the door for me, then ran and woke me up. the sergeant said he was supposed to check my ID to make sure it was me, but went "You look plenty sick so I don't think I need it."

from here to new york or something was like 150$ one way. completely outrageous.

if they get to 2 hrs they're competing with air travel; price will shadow airfare+parking+taxis, so don't expect big bargains. So back to question 1: can they even do it?

even the non-Acela Amtrak train to NY is only 1.5 hours now

While most women do like to get flowers for some reason, I suspect you could get more mileage from your 70 bucks something that will last more than a couple of days.

it's not like I can reliably tell what kind of clothes she would like. there really isn't anything she doesn't have and wants that I can get her for 70 bucks.
