I think it was Bill Simmons who wrote that when Scarlett eventually does a nude scene, the internet will have to take five minutes off for a smoke break.

My daughter had a take home physics test for which she was forbidden to use the book, internet or any other outside sources. I'm proud to say she complied, but am I a terrible person for wondering whether all her classmates did? Is it common to have science take home tests that aren't open book?

I'm pretty annoyed at how jacked up this whole "promotion" process is working but I guess I should be more surprised that it took this long for red tape to get in my way on this job. I was supposed to get a raise on Jan. 5, a pretty sizable one, at least within the context of an city civilian job. But three weeks after we get the wheels in motion on that, personnel sends us a letter advising us that we have to apply online for our promotions and a list will be created for the position we were already promoted to six months ago. The "job posting" went up yesterday. I mentioned this to a corporal and he basically did what he could to get us around all this bull shit, but it seems we're going to have to do it anyway. The list won't be created until March 1. Which means I'll go at least two months, probably longer, without getting paid what I'm supposed to be paid.

I've been putting off dieting for a few months now, but I figure if I'm sick this should be a good springboard.

There's some pretty clever graffiti in the bathroom stalls on this floor. I have no idea who could have written it. Most people here aren't too interested in being clever.

I usually start my day around 10. Started working at 7 today. It feels like it should almost be quitting time, and it's not even noon.

Isn't your daughter some kind of super genius anyway? And so aren't you just bragging here? Genius, and not the evil kind. Like Kant. Or Spock.

Me too. Though I no longer have a nearby CVS to stoke it.

I like her casual reaction - like that sort of thing is an everyday occurrence for her.

A take-home, closed-book test? Sounds like the teacher didn't want to proctor the exam.

If someone who is skilled at talking is a good conversationalist, why is someone good at preserving* things not a good conservationalist?
