A friend of mine in NY just got a job to do a commercial where he has be in a fat suit the whole time. I assumed this was for some kind of comedy effect, but it turns out it's for a diabetes medication. Why not just get a fat guy to do it?

 @ housh

thanks for all the kind words, guys.

the procedure is known as selective dorzal rhizotomy. the deal with baby mose's particular kind of CP is that his brain is involuntarily sending signals to certain muscles causing them to contract and be tight, or be spastic. in his case, both of his legs and his right arm were super tight; it also affects his speech. as you'll read, the surgery involves going into his spine and removing the nerves that causes him to be spastic.

the doctor who did the procedure is world-renowned for this, as he's developed a way to perform it so that he only needs to cut a 4-6" incision vs. the whole length of the spine. obviously helps tremendously in recovery time.

That's great, Mose. Best of luck moving forward.

Also, this new Wire thread is the most tempting thing ever. I'm almost through season 3 now but can't spoil anything.

I argued with this girl for 20 minutes last weekend before realizing I would slit my wrist if I conversed with her any longer. She tried arguing that Family Guy was a BETTER show than the Simpsons. After I conceded that the later season were not really up to par, she said Family Guy was better written as well. I was about to explode when she said that.

Later on in the night, she was talking about how much better Friends was then Seinfeld. If she was trying to purposely make me mad, she did a great job. Either that or she was stupid.

Simpsons/FG/Friends/Seinfeld... none of those 4 can compete with Manimal.

I've had similar arguments. Family Guy was funny for how long? 5 seasons, maybe; The Simpsons were funny for over 10 seasons. The new episodes of Family Guy are just plain unwatchable, but the new episodes of the Simpsons at least have their moments(not that I watch them, either)...

On what objective measurements are you basing the term "better"? :|

Don't tell me you're about to argue that Wheel of Fortune is a better show than Arrested Development because it gets better ratings.

that's not an objective measurement. you can't meaningfully call something better without a measurement mechanism. what you've said is an opinion and as such you were wrong to be angry with the woman you conversed with because she was expressing a valid opinion as well. even though your argument is backed up by a majority of public opinion, especially amongst the intelligent segment of the population, your argument is an argumentum ad populum, which is not an acceptable defense. if there's no tangible evidence, nothing can be called wrong or right, worse or better. duh.
