Nunes is a moron. He was on C-SPAN this morning talking about how the Catholic bishops have opposed the bill. When the moderator mentioned that Catholic hospitals and nuns support it, Nunes muttered something about there being a lot of radical, leftist nuns and that the bishops are in charge and should be obeyed.

Obeying the orders of bishops and cardinals has been working for the Catholic Church recently, hasn't it???

I remember when rbm-de used to throw around "socialist" and "totalitarian" on pp.com I thought he was way out there. (He might still do this as far as I know.)

In the past hour I think I've heard about a dozen Republican congressmen say pretty much the same thing.

Democrat=Socialist=Communist=Totalitarian

They've started to throw Nazi and Fascist in there too. Because communism and Nazism are obviously the same thing.

I think that was it. Dude was a visionary--he was incredibly offensive and flat-out imbecilic years before the mainstream of his party was.

This is a great day. I hope they listen to Frum and at some point decide to take an interest in governing again rather than spiraling ever-faster down the white/straight/Christian identity politics hole, but that's another concern for another time.

That's remarkably stupid. Democrats had the votes to pass it no matter what the GOP did. We won the political debate, the bill they're passing is not as far reaching as they wanted, it includes a bunch of ideas the GOP favored and Democrats are on track to get hammered, absolutely hammered, in November.

David Frum is such a fucking dope. I hate people that turn saying things against your party so you become every liberal's favorite conservative into a career.

This is the guy that wrote the axis of evil line ffs.

The Dems are not going to get hammered in November because of healthcare reform. If anything, they'll get a few more votes because of it. They'll get hammered because of the economy they inherited from the Republicans and because they were patriotic and bipartisan enough to heed the call of President Bush and Treasury Secretary Paulson to enact the emergency rescue of the financial system at a time the President's party in Congress was playing politics. If the Dems go down in Nov, and likely they will, at least they will have accomplished something.

Maybe the optics of the health care debate wouldn't have been as detrimental on Obama and the Dems poll numbers if the economy was in better shape, but the entire process of passing this bill, and passing it itself, is going to be a contributing factor in Dem losses this fall. If you doubt that, wait till you see the ads this fall going after the Dems in swing districts who voted for the bill. I bet it tests like gold.

If by winning the health care debate you mean doing nothing, yeah I suppose. But I call that a forfeit.

By the way, I know no one cares about Frum, but I think his main point was that Rush and so forth do better for themselves when conservatives lose. And that's true.

basically, calvinball, the feds will now kill your grandma, abort all babies, and outlaw both private insurance and doctors making more than 20k per year. also, everyone is now getting free healthcare, paid for by your next door neighbor.
