So they actually grow hay? Is it just for feeding horses or is there some other use for hay?

I always assumed hay was some annoying by-product.

yea. it is just random grasses that they will chop down with a big tractor thingy, let it dry which they have some other machines that help make this happen, and finally they bale it up into those huge round ones or little guys.

i worked on a farm one summer where we rented out land to a guy who would do this.
