Obama Happyworld Politics Thread!

So, Jim Bunning is feeling the effects of this bad economy:
Jim Bunning was the toast of Detroit when he threw a no-hitter for the Tigers in 1958.

Now, after opposing a federal bailout for the auto industry, the Republican senator from Kentucky can't even get a gig signing autographs at a suburban sports-card show.

Bunning was to appear Sunday at the Gibraltar Trade Center in Taylor. Fans would have paid $35 for Bunning to sign a baseball and $55 to sign a bat.

But Bunning was kicked off the schedule after he helped derail an auto-industry loan package in the Senate Thursday night.

Thought this was interesting: rejected campaign logos for Obama '08.

Since I linked to the William Ayers op-ed a week or two back, I might as well highlight this piece, in which Katha Pollitt makes Ayers her bitch:

I wish Ayers would make a real apology for the harm he did to the antiwar movement and the left. Not another "regrets, I've had a few," "we were all young once," "don't forget there was a war on" exercise in self-promotion, but one that showed he actually gets it. I'd like him to say he's sorry for his part in the destruction of Students for a Democratic Society. He's sorry he helped Nixon make the antiwar movement look like the enemy of ordinary people. He's sorry for his more-radical-than-thou posturing, and the climate of apocalyptic nuttiness he helped fuel to disastrous results, of which the fatal Brinks robbery, committed by erstwhile comrades who became even crazier than Ayers' crew, was only the most notorious.

True, the damage wrought by the Weatherpeople is trivial compared with the war itself and has arguably been more thoroughly denounced. After all, John McCain most likely killed civilians while bombing Vietnam, and he got to run for president as a war hero. Henry Kissinger is fawned upon wherever he goes. I'd be happy to forget all about the Weatherpeople, many of whom have done good things with their lives since. But if we're going to talk about them-- and Ayers can't leave it alone-- let's tell the truth. Of all the sectarian groups from that era , Weather, in all its permutations, was the least effective and the most destructive to the movement. It was all about the romance of itself. And it still is.

The other thing about Ayers and the whole new left was that were generally a bunch of hypocritical children of privilege who played revolutionary when they weren't summering on Martha's Vineyard.

Sam Brownback, someone I respect even though I disagree with him on lots of stuff, voted for the bailout. It's an interesting vote.

if only we had national healthcare, businesses wouldn't have to worry about all those nasty health insurance plans for all those ungrateful workers.

My liberal Democrat (pro-Hillary) cousin was blaming Obama the other night, too. But I attribute it to sour grapes.

I'm having a great deal of trouble imagining the story line - ESPECIALLY when two separate people are coming up with it.

Could either of you elaborate?

I declined contention whenever possible. To summarize, "Obamanomix lol" was a phrase I heard at least five times.

He's killing the economy in previously unimaginable ways:
After an expensive and emotional 15-year organizing battle, workers at the world’s largest hog-killing plant, the Smithfield Packing slaughterhouse in Tar Heel, N.C., have voted to unionize.

“It feels great,” said Ms. Blue, who makes $11.90 an hour and has worked at Smithfield for five years. “It’s like how Obama felt when he won. We made history.”

“The union didn’t win by a big margin, but it’s an important positive sign for labor,” said Richard Hurd, a professor of labor relations at Cornell University. “They may be able to use it as leverage to organize other meatpacking plants in the South. The victory may be tied to the political environment. The election of Barack Obama may have eased people’s concerns about speaking out and standing up for a union.”

I don't know whether to laugh or cry.
I know what you're asking yourself and the answer is yes. I have a nick name for my penis. Its called the Octagon, but I also nick named my testes - my left one is James Westfall and my right one is Doctor Kenneth Noisewater.

Referring to Obama's comments that the economy will get worse before it gets better. She said it was instilling fear in the populace which was leading to decreased consumer spending.

I dunno. I guess it may be a problem but it's akin to aggressively treating a gunshot victim's eczema in an attempt to save his life.

She was a deranged Hillary supporter... it just about ruined Thanksgiving; her mother was equally crazed in favor of Obama.
