I think that's a rear view showing the hamstring attachment on the left -that grayish thing that starts on the top left and goes down past the left eye and terminates near the mouth. The 'ol biceps femoris.

Vicodin is good

I like how like five people have now called me acting like assholes thinking that I am all pissed that Barack Obama is the new president.

I didn't really like either he or McCain but I really don't know that I think Obama will be a bad president. Hearing him speak again last night after it was sealed made me like him a little more. He does display qualities that some of the greatest Presidents our country has ever seen display. He is easy to listen to and conveys his points pretty well.

But please, because I voted for McCain doesn't mean that I HATE Obama or wish him to fail and if one more person tries to engage me into a political argument that I really don't care to be engaged in I am going to knock them out.

Obama is now our President and I am going to back the guy up. Can't say that most of my democrat friends would do the same if McCain had won.
Do it again!

I'll ask again -- what is wrong with your knee

To begin with, I have bad knees in general. Very high mileage, basically. When I first got my left knee scoped when I was around 25, the surgeon (Jack McPhillemy, used to be orthopod for a couple of the teams) told me I had the kness "of a 40 year old professional athlete".

So that left knee has been a problem since then (torn PCL & ACL, and some torn cartilage, I forget which) and the right knee followed in a couple years. I've now developed arthritis in both knees, which would bother me on and off- and by that I mean sometimes REALLY hurt, other times just minor pain.

So the right knee has been the problem child lately. It swelled up like a ballon when I was in FLA (the same time as the NLDS). So as soon as I got back, I went in and had the knee drained (50CC) and shot up with cortisone. OK for two weeks, then minor pain started again.

Then, this past weekend, I don't know what happened. First noticed a bad (what I thought was a) Charlie Horse in my right calf. Then Saturday night my right bicep was killing me. Then Sunday afternoon major pain set in- especially when driving, from my ankle clear through my hammys, concentated near the lower/outside/rear of the knee. Went to see the doc Monday- said not too much fluid, wanted to rule out a cartilage tear, so wrote me a script for an MRI. So by now I'm barely walking. I almost crawl into the MRI place yesterday (driving severly exacerbates this), and get the pictures taken. I called the doc yesterday and he called in some vicodin for me. Works pretty well temporarily, but doesn't last the whole 6 hours between doses. I just came upstairs (to my home office) from getting The Kid on the school bus, and I've never experienced pain like that in my life. I was literally screaming trying to get up the stairs. Took about 10 minutes. Last vicodin was at 4:30AM, so technically I'm not due again until 10:30.

So I'm going to try to adjust the meds- instead of two vicodin every six hours, I'm gonna try one every four hours along with four ibuprofen and continual ice. But hopefully they'll see something in the MRI and get me fixed right up. Yeah right.

Due to the severity of the arthritis, by all rights I should just have TKR (total knee replacement) but most (all?) surgeons refuse to do this to someone under 50, because the replacement knees only last about 15 years. But at this point I don't care- I'll have it done again in 15 years if necessary. This really blows.

Oh man, that's brutal bucky. Really sorry to hear. I've only hurt my knee once, which was relatively minor, and that was complete agony for a week. I can't even imagine what your situation must feel like. Tack some Mike's Lemonade on with the Vicodin, I promise it will help.

My dad just had his second knee replacement (on the same knee) this summer. He's only in his 50s. The first replacement didn't even last the 15 years, but that's because it never really healed to begin with. He, too, has just always had bad knees. This time around the surgery only had him out of work for about a month and he was only in the hospital for a couple days. He's glad he did it.

But I definitely would say to all the kids out there, 'Kids, it's a bad word. Don't say it. And I'm dead serious.' "
