This campaign isn't about the issues POLITICS THREAD

Postby FlightRisk » Sat Sep 27, 2008 21:25:18

Color me relieved not to hear "main street" and "wall street" used in the same sentence by either candidate.

Unless I missed it under the din of the "page turn" sound effect roaring out of my Kindle (TM).
I'm afraid you're just too darn loud.

Philly the Kid wrote:Why can't Obama simply say, "John, do you feel as a senior Senator of the Republican party, that the Republican policies, and agendas the last 8 years have any responsibility for the circumstances we are in today??"

Where are questions like that? He kept trying to say "Bush" "you and Bush", rather than "you - -as a staunch LONG time EXPERIENCED member of Republican party" the people that have lead us here today... tie him to the party and the overall philosophical views of that party. Maverick or not, he's still a Republican, he's not an independent.

What a wasted. Obama could have pwned him.

I'm sure McSame could flip it around after separating himself from the Republicans (he is, after all, a "maverick") and ask why his Democratic party aided and abetted the Republicans, especially once they won the majority in 2006.

At least that's what I'd do, but maybe that's why I'm wasting time on the Interwebs and not in Washington.

I'm spoiling it right now, but there's something to love about going almost 24 hours without a post in this thread.

I'm thinking moratorum on politics threads after the election is a good idea, maybe by the end of the second week of November after all the chest thumping and bumming is over with.

why? these threads are very tame by internet standards and I think most of us are fairly respectful of opposing opinions

I doubt it will be that divisive. i know I'll be 100% behind whoever the Supreme Court decides to elect.

Yeah, i think it's pretty good for the most start, you just have to filter out a few people. but reading things from people like djaf and jerseyh is great, I think

Seems kind of rash. You already do enough to shape the tone of the board, prohibiting topics of discussion seems like a bit much, even for you.

I think politics suck the life out of things. Politics threads absolutely are number two (if not number one) source of bad behavior behind game threads. We don't argue religion, why argue politics?

I think the fact that they are tame by internet standards is less a product of the people involved than a product of the fact that 80% of the active posters are on the same side, despite having rigourous debate amongst themselves.

Politics is the single biggest culture element of the old board that I didn't want ported here. I've traded up on the grown men talking dirty to one another, can't I have one thing?

Don't forget, there was a flat out ban on political discussion on the board for the first what, 6-7 months of it's existance?

All manner of subjects of discussion are prohibited.

Frankly, if as much effort were put into baseball talk as had appeared in politics threads over the past six months we'd... well, we'd be more of a baseball messageboard, that's for sure.

I don't think the politics talk has come at the expense of the baseball talk. If you look, some of the best posters are active in both discussions

Understandable but this is also the stetch run of the one of the most active presidential elections in recent history. I think you will naturally see a much less profilic political discussion after the elections anyway.

It's not even like this thread is that active. We've had a huge week with debates, and the Wall Street stuff, and we've not even hit 10 pages. I think at least for awhile the which bsger would you like to be for one day was more active.

I do have to say keeping it to one thread has helped, and I think it's cool that everyone has stuck to that.
