Good response from the Obama guys, though.

A question for clarification followed by a response...

1) Is the McCain team running the Ayers TV ad or one of the 527s?
.

WHAT?! THERE ARE ANTI-OBAMA 527s?!?! I THOUGHT THOSE DIDNT EXIST OMGZ

As people here point out McCain the Mean Liar doesn't exactly go with his image. If they can get mileage out of McCain the Gracious Opponent it's worth it. If I were cynical or a Democrat, I might say that running the ad today could force Obama to mute his criticism of McCain tonight. If he's heavily critical he looks like a jerk. And the Obama people might have to put the gloves back on next week. While some here might argue that strategically the high road isn't a good one, the perception that you're on it is always good.

I just had someone call me that told me a friend of a friend knew that Romney just got secret service protection at his sister's house in Michigan.

Then I got an email saying that new trucks are all around the governor's mansion and that Tim Pawlenty is McCain's choice for VP. It will be leaked to media around 6 pm central and confirmed by 8pm.

So Carl Cameron doesn't have it. Mmm. I guess I won't be finding out at work tonight.

LAEx, you produce this one?

Actually probably not a terrible idea, though I'm not sure it's the best allocation of resources ever.

Well, I like it, FWIW.

But my instinct is that it's aimed at the media, not really any voters. As "working the refs" strategies go, maybe a smart one.

Meanwhile, evidently Obama's speech is going to focus on the consequences of Bush/Republican economics and link those policies to the problems facing so many American families right now. Presumably this allows him to sink McCain on the substance rather than with the slime--presuming, of course, that McCain chooses not to repudiate Bush/Cheney economic policies.

I like that too.

edit: bake's new politics thread reminds me that I'd meant to lock this one tonight. So, it's done. Use that one.
