Huh. Maybe it's a short-term trend, because everything I've read is that by mid-century the mix is going to be far more non-white. Where did you read that?

If I were a young single Republican operative, I'd try to hook up with Christine O'Donnell's campaign

I'm telling you, Obama is going to end up being his own worst enemy in this...

That doesn't seem to prove what you think it does.

Not trying to be condescending, I am genuinely curious. I just wouldn't even consider voting McCain and I think I am pretty well on the right side at this point. (For example, boo welfare)

You really need to get out more and stop listening to the Democratic propaganda about McCain. Just as there are many people who wouldn't dream of voting for McCain, there are a lot of people who are really repulsed by Obama and a lot of others who find a lot to love about McCain.

Or you could just wait two years for my documentary and find out then.

2 years? I'm afraid it doesn't sound very topical, unless McCain can win the election. Will it be available on Netflix?

So how do you have time to do a documentary with all your work as a McCain delegate? I imagine you'll be busy around convention time, plus all the propaganda work for McCain on message boards, etc.

The chart refers to all urban areas in the US. But if you read the text of the article, you'll see this:

As the suburbs become more mixed, some inner-city areas are turning less so. Los Angeles, which markets itself as the city “where the world comes together”, and New York (“the world's second home”) both added whites and lost blacks between 2000 and 2006. So many blacks moved out of Los Angeles that, were the exodus to continue unabated, they would disappear from the city around 2050. Manhattan and San Francisco lost Hispanics as well as blacks, which is remarkable given that group's speedy growth in the country as a whole. Meanwhile, the world came together on their fringes.

Nearly half the people surveyed by the Pew Research Center in late June said they now consider energy exploration and drilling more important than conservation

Half of this is good. energy exploration is much more important than conservation. Drilling, not so good.

I wonder if the people at Redstate care or even recognize that their website has gone to crap. About the only poster worth reading there is blackhedd, and he posts mainly on finance.

A Newsweek poll released Friday showed that 12 percent of those polled believed Obama was sworn in as a U.S. senator on a Quran, and 26 percent believed that he was raised as a Muslim.

22 percent believe President Bush knew about the 9/11 attacks in advance.
30 percent believe Saddam had weapons of mass destruction.
23 percent believe they've been in the presence of a ghost.
18 percent believe the sun revolves around the Earth.

The Quran one is inexcusable, but it's not that retarded to think he was raised Muslim. His dad used to be a Muslim and he lived in Indonesia, which is the largest Muslim country in the world. Now, you'd be wrong if you thought he was raised Muslim, but it's not quite as bad as the Quran thing.

I'm glad people don't send me dumb chain emails. I'd probably get really mad really quickly.

I don't think most Americans know that Indonesia is the largest Muslim country in the world (or is a Muslim country at all or could pick it out on an unmarked globe for that matter). I think the people who think he's Muslim were told he's Muslim and never bothered to check. That and his middle name is Hussein, Saddam's name, so he has to be Muslim, right?

Also, I thought it was just the Arab Muslims that people were afraid of, not the large percentage of African American Muslims in the US. I mean, who thinks Muhammed Ali or Kareem Abdul-Jabbar are terrorists?

I agree with your overall point. But how many people even know the facts I bolded?

To put it another way, if you know Obama spent part of his childhood in Indonesia, you probably know about Reverend Wright, and for all the stuff that's been said about that guy, nobody seems to think he's Muslim.

My guess is it's just his freaky name that drives the misperception. Not much he can do about that.

I guess, but the question was of people who said he was raised Muslim, not currently is. So they could know all about his joining Wright's church and becoming a practicing Christian, but think he was raised a Muslim all the same, due to the things I mentioned.

Obviously, his name and the ridiculously dumb emails that go around play a role as well, a bigger one than well intentioned people who are just confused.

Not that this excuses ignorance, but I suspect some of the belief that Obama took the oath on a Quran is due to the publicity that that freshman congressman from Minnesota got for doing so. I think a lot of people just heard about that in passing and then later assumed it was Obama.

So what's the big deal about the New Yorker mag cover? Looked pretty good to me? Seems like it worked, getting people to think about how stupid it is to believe that crap about the Obamas and also to think about the New Yorker.
