Not that I know of, although smitty says Goldwater wasn't a WASP. I have trouble considering Catholic a minority, but I don't think I'd argue too hard for my opinion. When I think minority in the context of lethal's original question, I think more along the lines of an ethnicity that one can't change or conceal. With that said (and why I wouldn't argue too hard), a lot of people believe that their religious status (being born Catholic, Muslim, even Jewish) is also not something they can change.

It's still a gray area, because obviously millions of Catholics choose to stay Catholics, while many (millions?) of Catholics change their mind and become Protestant (and vice versa).

Quakers should probably be considered Protestant, but they aren't all necessarily Christians.

Even though they called him Dutch, I think Reagan was Irish, at least part.

Barry Goldwater's father converted to the Episcopal Church from Judaism. While not a WASP Goldwater was a Protestant. Al Smith and John Kennedy were Irish Catholics. Dwight Eisenhower was of German descent. Looking at the names of the other Presidents I can't see any others that were not either of English or Scotch/Irish descent.

Reagan is considered the second Irish president by Irish people I know, for whatever that's worth.

He did come and visit where his family was meant to have come from, and made a big song and dance of it. Not that we were particularly impressed at the time, as it seemed to do feck-all to improve the 20% unemployment rate at the time.

Celtic, not Emerald. And despite 15+ years of increased wealth, we now provide fewer hospital beds per head then we did in 98. And we always overcharged for our drink, and have never in our 90+ years as a nation given a toss about the less well off. The government sensibly leaves that to the church and charity of the less well off.

Sorry, I'm proofing and in a grumpy mood. Celtic Tiger, me arse.

Rasmussen did some one day polls yesterday in Ohio and Wisconsin.

He has Hillary up 14 in Ohio and Obama up 4 in Wisconsin.

I'm sort of surprised to see Hillary that close in Wisconsin. Of course, it's a one day poll so it should be taken with a huge grain of salt.

If she loses Wisconsin, she'll probably be lucky to win Ohio, let alone win it by double digits.

I apologize if I've already posted this blog on "low information" voters but I think it's excellent and well worth reading.

Good read.

Makes me warm and fuzzy inside to know that TV ads are a somewhat likely cause of Obama killing her in VA and MD. News like that is good for business.
