Amen to that. Though I guess the above could also be read as implying that we're all stupid, and you're choosing to interact with us for some weird reason.

I second your amen. It's what has ultimately pulled me away from things like sports message boards. It's not so much the stupid as my ridiculously extreme reaction to it.

This is the first election in a long while that has me on an opposite side from most of my friends. Don't get me wrong- once this is all sorted out, we'll most likely all be in proper alignment, but until then, it's kind of strange.

So, you or your friends hate black people?

It depends on who you ask. MSNBC has Obama up 4 after yesterday.

Obama's on pace to raise another $30 million this month, after a record-breaking $32 million last month (mostly in very small denominations). Meanwhile, Hillary just loaned her campaign $5 million out of her own pocket, and some upper level campaign people are working for free.

This is because white women need to ask their husbands for money to donate.

My Michael Savage listening to pod-mate told me he was voting for Obama. When I, slightly taken aback and maybe even excited, asked why, he said Obama was a converted Muslim, and there was no bigger upset to Islam than that, and that there was no better way to stir up that hornet's nest in the Middle East.

yup.

yup.

It's not even because he's black or because they are that racist it's because they are largely uneducated (aka all high school grads barely) and because they are terrified of muslims.

Why do they think he's Muslim? Because his name sounds Muslim? Because he lived in Indonesia?

Probably also because of all those phoney emails going around.

I had thought this was entirely fictional. After looking on the Web I discovered that both his father and step-father were Muslims. When your father is a Muslim Islam considers you a Muslim. Obama's mother was not a practicing Christian and he didn't start going to church until he was 24.

He is a practicing Christian now, of course, but I could see his upbringing being another issue for people who don't trust others who don't practice religion. Some people believe a Muslim could get elected before an Atheist.

Personally I don't care about a candidates religion. That Mike Huckabee thinks I'm going to Hell doesn't bother me. I could see Obama's true religious background being an issue for those who are uniformed.

I believe that anyone who is afraid of Muslims should take a trip to a Mosque and discover Muslims aren't scary.

If you think atheists haven't been in the White House you are incredibly naive. Eisenhower wasn't even baptized, not sure if he was atheist.

Didn't know that (didn't really care). I hate to say this, but it might have implications... not necessarily with the electorate (aside from the ignorant), but potential implications regarding relations with the ME... Islam considers anyone who was born into Islam (at least one Muslim parent) but doesn't accept Islam to be apostate, and under Islamic law, must be put to death.

What a fun bunch.

You are assigning the beliefs of a branch of Islam to the entire religion. It's like assigning the beliefs of a Baptist to all of Christianity.

I certainly can't judge the religious beliefs of people I've never met and who died before I was born nor was I trying to. What I was saying is that there are people who think that a self-professed Atheist would have the toughest time getting elected over anyone who professes belief in any religion.

I know it's a small, radical, fundamental fraction and not all Muslims, I'm not grouping such espoused beliefs to all Muslims. But there are enough of those fundie nuts (Iran's Ahmadinejad, mullas, etc.) to have some influence. Now, I don't think Obama's "apostate-ness" should be an issue... just passing on information so that there isn't a surprise if there is some sort of effect on US dealings in the ME.

Romney suspending rather than dropping out so he can keep his delegates, I guess in the off chance that Huckabee and McCain go on for a while splitting delegates and Romney's become relevant at the convention.

I imagine once McCain reaches the threshold for nomination, Romney will formally drop out so his delegates can back McCain.
