It's not even because he's black or because they are that racist it's because they are largely uneducated (aka all high school grads barely) and because they are terrified of muslims.

I honestly think you're overestimating the racial/religious bigotry in this country. He got over 7 million votes last night, barely below Clinton, and has been doing increasingly well among whites in areas where he's had time to campaign.

Sure, there'll be pockets of bigotry, some blatant, some subtle. While I think that might keep him from ever winning in a 70-30 type landslide in a general election, I think it's a little overblown. Of course, I tend to think the best of people and am a fairly optimistic person, so who knows...

Why do they think he's Muslim? Because his name sounds Muslim? Because he lived in Indonesia?

Because his father was Muslim is probably a more reasonable assumption.

I had thought this was entirely fictional. After looking on the Web I discovered that both his father and step-father were Muslims. When your father is a Muslim Islam considers you a Muslim. Obama's mother was not a practicing Christian and he didn't start going to church until he was 24.

He is a practicing Christian now, of course, but I could see his upbringing being another issue for people who don't trust others who don't practice religion. Some people believe a Muslim could get elected before an Atheist.

Personally I don't care about a candidates religion. That Mike Huckabee thinks I'm going to Hell doesn't bother me. I could see Obama's true religious background being an issue for those who are uniformed.

I believe that anyone who is afraid of Muslims should take a trip to a Mosque and discover Muslims aren't scary.

His father was Muslim earlier in life, but was no longer a practicing Muslim by the time he met Barack's mother.

Not that any of this should matter.

does your employment involve

a) education of children
b) flammable ingredients
c) power tools

because if any of the above apply I would urge you to change jobs. You really shouldn't be depending on your colleagues' continued luck.
Yes, but in a double utley you can put your utley on top they other guy's utley, and you're the winner. (Swish)

Thankfully, no. We just post lots of money for a surgical supply company.

Didn't know that (didn't really care). I hate to say this, but it might have implications... not necessarily with the electorate (aside from the ignorant), but potential implications regarding relations with the ME... Islam considers anyone who was born into Islam (at least one Muslim parent) but doesn't accept Islam to be apostate, and under Islamic law, must be put to death.

What a fun bunch.

Amen to that. Though I guess the above could also be read as implying that we're all stupid, and you're choosing to interact with us for some weird reason.

As a side note, I'd love to know what percentage of Hillary voters yesterday believe that Obama's a Muslim.

So Obama is actually leading the delegate count overall right now. Although its a thin margin was that supposed to be the case after Super Tuesday? He should also be able to win Virginia, DC, and MD next tuesday...

I second your amen. It's what has ultimately pulled me away from things like sports message boards. It's not so much the stupid as my ridiculously extreme reaction to it.

This is the first election in a long while that has me on an opposite side from most of my friends. Don't get me wrong- once this is all sorted out, we'll most likely all be in proper alignment, but until then, it's kind of strange.
