here we go.
Thanks, Mets bullpen. You've been a joy to watch for the last month.
(can we just kneecap the lot of them?)
give him time
It's only the 5th inning. Mota and Sele will be in there before long.
The man needs to be fired. I don't care if the Mets make the playoffs or not. I don't care if they win the world series. He needs to be fired.
Fire Willie Randolph!
Willie has made some strategic errors in the end he can't pitch for these guys. It is pretty tough to win when the only guy getting anyone out consistently is Pedro and he can only go 5-6 innings every 6 days. I can't remember seeing anything quite like this pen, not even in the Dallas Green era. It doesn't matter who comes in, everyone including Heilman and Wags, is a gas can. Some are worse than others (Mota, Sosa, etc) but everyone has been bad. It is nuts.
Pulling Humber after 4+ innings
Is utterly unacceptable considering the gascan pen is the other option. I'm convinced Randolph doesn't like Humber for some assinine reason, and it's going to cost the Mets here, if it didn't already in past games where Sele (and Mota and Sosa) was used in a game that was still in hand.
Also, Milledge not playing over Carlos Gomez' nonexistent bat is absurd. Randolph is managing like the division was locked up weeks ago.
LoDuca
He's far more prone to explosions than Milledge, but he gets a pass from someone in charge, even though he sucks a big hard one.
It's because he's gritty and the heart and soul of the team. I can laugh at such inanity when the Fire Joe Morgan crew is lampooning it, but when I see the Mets run by such wisdom, it makes me want to pull my hair out.
Bottom Line Is...
...Willie has to manage this team, that's his job. He can't just throw up his hands and say "the pitching sucks".
He has to get 27 outs by any means necessary. If that means using 11 pitchers, use 11 pitchers.
This team is embarassing themselves, they are embarassing the fans and they are embarassing the great people of Queens. A team that couldn't score with a blank checkbook in a whorehouse is running around the bases at Shea like they are Chinese Taipei in the 1985 Little League World Series.
Randolph
Didn't he say something idiotic along the lines of "sipping champagne" that suggested that he really thought the division was wrapped up a month ago? He's been managing like he thinks the division has been wrapped up, and for that he should be canned. I know Wilpon isn't 1980s George Steinbrenner, but Randolph manages by every Joe Morgan-approved conventional wisdom idea out there, and it makes me sick.
I've muted SNY
Cohen needs to STFU (or at least stop repeating the same things over and over).
you gotta be kidding me
after much absence i have decided to make a comeback to the message board instead of jumping out my window, this team should be sent on a plane and the plane shot out of the fucking sky, even if they make the playoffs they should be kicked out for being so gutless and worthless
I may cry...
if we lose this game, I'm just seriously so fucking frustrated with this team. It's almost like they all secretly got together and said: "Hey, let's play really bad at the end of the year and piss off all the fans who have been pining for playoff baseball since Beltran took strike three last october."...
Fuck this.
not really unprecedented
These things happen pretty frequently (go read the Cubs and Padres blogs and see fans howling just as much as we are). It just really, really sucks when it's your team that's imploding.
If the Mets don't come back and win this one, I'm going to stay away from the games this weekend, and check on the standings Sunday night to see if they made the playoffs, because I really am tired of letting this team upset me. I have no control over what's happening on the field, so for the sake of my own sanity, I shouldn't let it bother me so much.
I was listening to SNY for the 1st time tonight, and I heard Keith Hernandez say something along the lines of "the Braves are still alive in the wild card race, but Smoltz and Hudson haven't delivered for them down the stretch". Does he always say such totally stupid inaccurate things? Granted, Hudson has not been as stellar lately as the rest of the year, but what more could you want from Smoltz? In his last 5 starts, Smoltz is 2-1, has averaged 7 innings per game, has given up an average of 1.8 runs per game on 4.4 hits. In those 34 innings he has had 34 K's. I'm betting most of the Mets fans here would like to have such an ineffective starter. Just wondering if Hernandez is always so spectacularly uninformed?....
Wagner is a piece of shit
late in year. Useless. He should be gone next year as should many of older players except they don't have many prospects and have fucked up with their best one Milledge. It's over folks. The Mets will not and don't deserve to get to playoffs. I fear we are heading into a deep abyss which will carry over for years to come. I should be used to the pain, but it still hurts
