Klentak again:

-- discussions started a little before Thanksgiving
-- after the last two seasons, they felt he'd be a great part of the team's future and this was the right time to get a long-term deal done

Pete's biggest worry is whether to hit him leadoff, 2nd or 3rd. Says he's made a great transition to CF

Odubel says he feels a lot better playing CF than he did when he first started, says he's going to get better. Was asked why he signed the deal now and didn't seem to have an answer, so Velandia made something up for him (I think?), says you never know when the opportunity will present itself again so he signed it

Klentak says his defensive specs (speed, etc.) are already near the top and he's still going to get better. Says it's up to Pete to decide whether he stays in CF but they feel strongly about leaving him there

Velandia says the team loves his batting and his smile

Klentak says Odubel is the first to be approached about a long-term deal, won't discuss other players since the focus is on Odubel today

Odubel says he'll continue to work hard and play hard so he can get a second contract. Asked about the difference in how he feels now compared to two years ago when he was left unprotected, says he was confident knowing someone would pick him up, thanks the Rangers for leaving him unprotected

Love Klentak. Very gracious.

Also, the contract is going to pay for itself in El Toro merchandise sales.

Love how Odubel was all...Why did I sign it now? They gave me a contract now. When did you want me to sign it? (at least that's how I interpret his answer).

He was definitely stumped. He looked at Georgie and gave him a look like "what kind of stupid question is that?"

It just means they will keep the guys in the minors even longer. He is a horrible fielder and base runner.
It's time to bring up all the kids and see what they have. This guarantees Mickey Moniak will not be a part of the team for 4-5 years.
This is the only team that holds back their top prospects. Very frustrating!

The next Ryan Howard contract

That's a lot of money and years for a guy who doesn't really have a position. This also makes him harder to trade if it ever comes to that so I'm not crazy about this

Only thing. Interesting about this is that it was brought to you by In Northeast Philadelphia you really have to advertise on breaking news

He's a hotdog I hope they trade him overrated

I'm sorry, I just love piping hot teaks

Awesome!!!! Let me run and buy season tickets . Arrogant, lazy outfielder. What a signing!

Waste.

Excuuuuusse me for having a difference of opinion! Let him learn how to run bases first, then get back to me on that. Waste of money and time with this guy.

Mark my words, I'll be vindicated soon enough!

6 million could've gone towards signing another "professional hitter" Oh wait, my bad, we got future Hall of Famer Howie Kendricks!!

Let him walk! Not as good as he thinks he is!

If he keeps the patience he had in the first third of last year, he's a terrific player, and that contract is a freaking bargain. If he walk 19 times in a half season, like the 2nd half of last year, his other skills don't fill the gap, and he's meh.

That said, I'm going to like the deal anyway, just to spite some asshole in Bill McNeal's timeline.

I think we're building a solid org. Not sold on Pete, at all, but I don't think he'll be here long. There's a chance Herrera, with the right guidance, has a couple of monster seasons, with 24-28 homers, and ridiculous runs scored / OBP.

He was not the only one by far. Hacktorino was a thing. It was fans not realizing how good they had it.

Victorino early on had the misfortune of those around him having incredibly good eyes at the plate so he looked worse by comparison

Is it because he's a rule 5 pick? I feel like if one of our homegrown prospects came up and put up 8 WAR in his age 23-24 seasons we'd be pretty pumped to extend them with a deal like this.
