Maybe he is really smart and is just going to pursue a career instead of a dream. Don't think I could do that but it seems like it would be the best reason.

Not really uncommon. Hell they drafted someone last year that decided to go to grad school instead. The fact that someone like him doesn't even make a living wage makes it an easy decision to choose a different path.

Remember Tyler Mach? Absolutely killed it in Williamsport. I'm sure CD wrote a few thousand words about him being the second baseman of the future, a diamond in the rough, etc. He wound up retiring after the season.

I think Kent will regret the fact that he didn't just stay through the summer and I bet his friends back home will tell him the same thing. And I suspect he will look back some day and think he should have stayed. There is no shame in not getting to the big leagues, good lord the guys in pro ball are ALL good, and were the best on the field until they got to college.

Minor league ball is a fun experience if you go in with the right attitude...enjoy the time, soak in every moment, stand at first base after a base hit and tell yourself that no one can ever take that hit in pro ball away from you, sign autographs for the 6 year olds who think you are a Greek god, read the sports pages and realize that is YOUR name in the box score, go to the pizza parlors where your team is considered the ONLY game in town....and enjoy.

He missed out on all of that. I believe he will regret it.

Someday, that 6 year old from the Burger King off the Maynard Street, Williamsport I-180 exit will look up Tyler Kent wondering whatever happened to him. At least he'll have the autograph, memories, and toy from the kids' meal.

At least he isn't claiming first hand experience as a minor leaguer anymore.

there's actually a bill recently introduced in Congress to make sure minor leaguers keep getting paid peanuts.

I'm curious as to what our post 10th round college juniors got. Guys like Zardon, Hall, Kelzer. I wonder if we started throwing a lot of 100K bonuses around. Maybe more like 50-75K but still that shows some commitment.
