Here's the e-mail:
Tonight, Wednesday, October 10th, the Philadelphia Fire Department will be coordinating a city-wide home fire drill to highlight the importance of developing and practicing your home fire escape plans and installing smoke alarms throughout your home or apartment.

At 7:30 PM, fire apparatus sirens throughout the city will sound in all neighborhoods indicating the start of the city-wide fire drill which all Philadelphians are urged to participate in by putting your own escape plans to the test. Fire Commissioner Lloyd Ayers urges everyone to join their neighbors in the City Wide Home Fire Drill and leave your home in a safe, expedient manner when the alarms sound tonight. Thank you.

Yeah, today was "take the fire truck to school day" -- I drive past a couple schools in the area to get VoxJr to preschool, and saw a bunch of them parked at schools.

Otherwise known as fire safety day.

Fire prevention around here tends to follow a kind of "scared straight" approach. Kids get pretty frightened by it. Last year, my daughter refused to go to bed until we put together a home fire drill and an outside meeting place. This year, she's counting our smoke alarms. Apparently, we don't have enough.

You all are making this seem very normal, but it's going to be pretty damn surreal if/when hundreds of sirens jump off at 7:30.

That's great, but setting off all the fire alarms in one of the nations llargest cities at 7:30 PM seems a bit nuts...and i'm sure not everyone is expecting it

i took a nap and i just had the weirdest dream ever. seriously.

i don't remember all of it, but i was in philadelphia, doing something phillies related, and i got a call on my cell phone. i looked at it, and the caller ID said "P. Baker." and then i switched to a dream about getting chased by cops.

Always go with the Butterfly Knife. Way cooler than switchblades.

It's a birthday present for someone. I'm trying to get something for ~$60 or so. These butterfly knives are pretty cool, vox, but most seem to be more than $100.

What kind of girl asks for a switchblade for her birthday?

man, how'd you know it was a chick?

and that is a good question. she always says she "needs" to get one semi-jokingly, so i think it'll be a good surprise.

seriously, though, redheads are craaaaaaaazy. crazy.

Oh, you want nice stuff. I think my brass butterfly knife was less than $20 back in the 80's. Those greedy children in third world countries.
