I honestly like what Edwards says the most. I also think that if Obama takes it, Edwards will be his VP.

You think he gets it again?

The VP will be and should be Richardson.

Obama's Cheney, in that he's an emotionless guy with no charisma that has a ton of knowledge?

Richardson is ok, but he is so much of a kissass (angling for Hillary's VP for the last 6 months). Plus, I don't think that Obama picks a hispanic VP. You are asking for a lot from a significant portion of America. I wonder if he'd go for Biden who seems like he'd be a decent VP.

It would be a shame if Obama looked at Kerry/Edwards as a failure as most of the Democrat party does. While they lost, they could have challenged the vote and Kerry got more votes than any loser in the history of the election (if I recall properly).

The more I think about it, the more I'd like to see Biden as Obama's VP pick, should he get that far. Biden actually does serve that Cheney function--elder statesman who "knows how Washington works," serious foreign policy cred--just, y'know, without the evil.

It'll be some tough older white guy at any rate--Biden, Webb, Clark, someone like that.

Biden, Dodd and now Gravel (he was still around?) are out. Good.

Btw, Guliani made a bad move by not paying attention to Iowa. People will see him at 2% and give up on him.

I really liked Obama's speech tonight. It reminded me of his speech from the Democratic Convention in 2000 which really put him on the map.

One last caucus gripe before the night is out...

Huckabee received fewer than half as many votes statewide in Iowa tonight than Bush won in the general in 2004 in my beloved homeland, Burlington County, NJ (population 423,394...roughly 2/3 of a congressional district).

Yeah, it's apples to oranges. It's still nuts.

Go, Huckabee, go!!!!

My personal choice is Edwards because he seems to see runaway corporate power as our biggest threat (I tend to agree) and I think he'll try to address the problem, though it's hard to believe he (or anyone else) will be successful. I'd be very happy with Obama, as well.

I kinda forgot about Clark. He might be a good pick as VP, unless Huckabee is the GOP nominee.

Isn't Huckabee a premillenial dispensationalist? If so, that's kind of, uh, scary.

I agree - candidates should be urged to divulge their complete medical histories.
Yes, but in a double utley you can put your utley on top they other guy's utley, and you're the winner. (Swish)

One name I haven't seen mentioned in this Obama/VP talk is Tom Daschle. He was on board with Obama very, very early. He's the token white guy who understands how Washington works from his Minority Leader days. He's a Demo who won elections in a red state (albeit a small one).

I'm not sure if I'd like the choice or not, but I think Daschle will be a player in the VP stakes. Joe Biden though, now that's a guy who I'd love to see on a ticket with Obama.

For McCain?

Only one of them campaigned in Iowa, and his name wasn't John. They're separated by around 300 votes w/ 85% reporting.

Just last week Thompson was picked to get beat by Ron Paul. Third place is good news for Thompson, and defies the idea that he's just sitting around doing nothing. Huckabee can't keep this up, and Romney looks really bad right now. I really believe (as others do) that the primary voters will be looking for alternatives to Huck in the next month, and Thompson might be a viable option. At least, I hope they see it that way.

Daschle has the loser stigma attached to him more than Edwards now. I dunno.

I agree - Daschle isn't going to win over any independents or swing voters. He's pretty much tarnished goods.

Edwards wants to be president almost as bad as McCain (which is hard to believe) - he'll take another VP spot if it puts him in line for the big job. He's young enough, I don't think it would hurt him at all to run as VP a second election in a row.

Here

I'm going to lock this one despite the open conversations, otherwise people will be crying that they can't find which thread to talk in.

Plus now dajafi and I can continue to have conversations without comments from the riff-raff.
