When you get to this point in the draft and start wondering why certain players are not on the Top 500, you're doing it wrong.

From UCSB's website:

A nationally-ranked recruit, southpaw Bailey Falter stands 6-foot-4 and had a banner junior year at Chino Hills High, leading to All-County, All-League, and All-CIF honors. One of the most sought-after recruits in the state, Falter had an 8-2 record this past season, amassing 85 strikeouts against just 19 walks in 67.2 innings of work. He held his opponents to an anemic .145 on-base percentage.

"Bailey is one of the premier left handed high school pitchers in California. He commands his fastball exceptionally well and spins a quality curveball for a strike. Bailey is accomplished, athletic and projects. With continued strength and maturity he has a chance to be a high draft pick and an All-Conference pitcher."

He apparently threw a no-hitter as a sophomore and has been the staff ace as his team goes through the playoffs

Perhaps they are going to go after some expensive guys starting in the 11th round. Or maybe Randolph cost us a fortune. Your guess is as good as mine.

If Randolph is going to cost a fortune, they're going to shell out for it. I don't have any concerns about him signing.

I like this pick. Good upside. He might grow an inch or two yet, and put on 50+ pounds! As he fills out he could be a force.

he doesnt need to be 225 to be a good pitcher. hamels is 200. 25 pounds doesnt seem unreasonable.

Right. That's what I'm saying. The Phils agreed to an overslot bonus for Randolph last night and have spent today overdrafting to pay for it.

We better hope.

people get up in arms over moves like this every year. you hear the same about many teams. just because ba has a few guys covering the country doesn't mean their list is close to how teams have guys ranked. phils obviously saw something where they feel he can add some mph. or he already added some mph this spring but not many teams were on it. nobody ever heard of pettibone when he got picked, but he reached the bigs.

I am thinking he grows another 2 or 3 inces. 6'6" - 6'7" is pretty slight at 200. He would be far from husky at those weights. He will fill out, and he needs some weight/muscle to endure the season.

It seems like a trending thing for huge lefties now. Kershaw and Bumgarner both have put on a good bit of weight the past few years but I think but Sale is even taller than Cole he looks like he weighs about 75 pounds.
