Most likely not. It's actually a brilliant chess move by Hextall. Schenn probably would've been claimed so why lose him for nothing. A couple of D injuries for another team and you might get a 5th in 2017 for Schenn. No one is claiming MacD. They wanted Laughton and Manning to make the team so the 900K savings by having MacD play for the Phantoms allows them to without losing Schenn for nothing. Once Schenn is traded or we get a long term Dman injury MacD will come back up.

Hexy's done a fantastic job so far. Very impressed.

Yeah, it's definitely a roster move. He can come back up at any time assuming someone is traded or injured (would get cap exception for injured players salary). Manning made the top 6, it was Schenn they didn't want to lose for nothing. Even if MacD comes back and plays well you'd have to attach a high draft pick with him to take that contract. Hextall to this point has said he won't do that. Homer did some dumb stuff but the MacDonald trade/contract and Vinny signing were other worldly.

Yeah they just take on the player with his remaining contract, so by waiving Mac, some team either takes that contract off our hands (won't happen) or he goes down to the AHL (gets 950K salary relief) and you have an injury replacement for the next few years.

As a Philadelphia sports fan (besides the Eagles) I am programmed to feel hope at the beginning of each season. As I sit here on the eve of the Flyers 2015-2016 campaign, I am filled not only with hope but a likely irrational level of hope for what this season will bring. I really think our boys are going to surprise some people this season. There are always "ifs" but if Mason can stay healthy and play at the same level he has so far during his Flyers' career, we will do some damage. Regardless of what happens this season, the future is bright.

CSN Philly picked us 6th in the division (ahead of NJ/CAR)

This where I am as well. The question is at what point does Hex/Hak agree that they've seen enough of the roster from last year and start to blend in younger players? I think that except for G, Couturier Mason and Voracek, anyone on the opening night roster is available for trade.

And Simmonds.

We will be a team in playoff contention until around the ASB, just like last year, but Hextall is going to be a seller, not a buyer, just like last year. This gets us a Top 10 pick where we take a Forward. We deal more dead weight at the draft. All the kids are on the team next year. THEN WE GON PARTY

gostisbehere is the only one you're going to see this year. all the players sent to juniors are def out. morin/hagg could come up if there are enough injuries/trades.
i think the biggest improvement will come from grossmann, macdonald and (hopefully) schenn not being on the ice. plus presumably a bump from the coaching change.

Certainly wouldn't give him away or anything but thought he stagnated last year. Kind of got away from the type of player he is IMO.
