Not sticking up for them, if you asked for a certified check and they didn't give it to you, then they fucked up. Just saying that branch employees hate doing them and will do whatever possible to not. When I worked in branches (1999-2002) I think I saw a total of maybe 2 the entire time.

The recipient of the check just cares that the bank is guaranteeing it instead of you because they think you're only half a notch above a transient in their eyes.

Yeah, and I think a lot of people think they need a certified check because someone will tell them that they have to pay for something using "certified funds" but a cashier/bank check is certified funds as is a money order so for the vast majority of transactions those instruments are interchangeable but consumers get confused because the word "certified" is only attached to one.
