Random Phillies Thoughts and Tired Schtick

Maybe it's just me, but I'm not excited about Brown coming back this year. Don't see why you wouldn't shut him down. 3 weeks left. Achilles injury.

I'd like to see him come back to show he's healthy in case he needs to be included in an off-season trade. I feel the same about Revere.

I feel that way about Revere (but it seems like their minds are made up that they aren't bringing him back), but Brown...

just how many people are we willing to trade this guy for given where we are in the success cycle? Stanton? Who else? So the unlikely chance that a trade drops in our laps may not be more than chance he's hurt further.

We shouldn't be planning on trading Brown. He's cheap, he's good and we're not about to win a championship. I'm not saying never trade him, but yeah.

Stanton is amazing and all but he's had serious health issues (so has Brown) and his #s dropped by quite a bit this year (they're still really good)

hey, cross him off the list.

who else are we trading him for given we're not likely winning the world series next year with one move. I mean if this was 2011, I'd listen, but it's not. D Brown in most realistic scenarios is part of our next playoff team. He's too cheap/good not to.

the big thing Stanton has on Brown from a needs standpoint is that he's right handed.

long term we're looking at a 1-9 of Hamels/Lee?/Pettibone/Biddle?/Morgan?, Rupp/Joseph/Veteran Signing/some other prospect, Howard/Franco, Utley, Asche/Franco, Jimmy/Galvis, Brown, Revere?, Ruf

I agree with all this. This team needs OF help, if you trade Brown then you are going into next year with Mayberry(FA)?/Revere(FA)/ruf(FA)?. What are you going to get for Brown+ that is going to offset the loss of Brown plus plug another hole. Seems too complicated and unlikely to work.

No thanks.

Honestly, I don't want Stanton, the phillies are more than one piece away from being a realistic contender at this point, and you'd have to give up a fortune in prospects (as well as players off the big club) to get him. Then he's arb eligible in 2014 so he's going to get expensive in dollars soon too. I mean it'd be awesome to get such a badass hitter, but it would weaken the team and organization so much to do it, it just wouldn't make sense

So the Phillies are the worst team in the NL by run differential, 2nd worst in baseball, behind only the Astros.

Oh, woe betide us.

When we have an OF of Ruf/Trout/Stanton next year, the cavalcade of homerz and the numberous DL stints for Brown with his new team will erase all doubts.
