I can't believe anyone would place any credence on what Rubes says to MLBN on 7/30.

I'm just preparing myself for Rube's comments this time tomorrow:

1. We tried to get a couple things done, but nothing came together (or MY10 was the only thing that came together).

2. We might still do something before August 31.

3. We feel we've gotten better with MAG signing and bringing Asche up.

4. With Howard, Revere and Halladay coming back, it will be like deadline acquisitions.

5. We think we still have a chance.

Rollins said that he was not waiving his NTC. That ended all discussion. Young could have said something like that.

didn't his family stay in texas? obviously he wants to go back there, but i'm not sure there is much of a difference playing 50 games in boston/ny/bal vs. in philly from a logistics point.

He is just trying to play the only hand he has to try to get back there. If he accepts that there is no trade possible with Texas or if the Phillies would rather keep him than to give him away for nothing, then he is leaving the door open to dropping the FNTC.
