Looking forward to 4 more years of nearly identical quotes from Amaro about Howard.

Your fault, douchehose.

No one could have predicted that Michael Young would play like this. Amaro can't see the future.

That's why I used the word "expected." Hope is a meager diet.

Who could have foretold that:

1) A 36-year-old DH signed to play 3B would have no range? And that same guy who had around a .700 OPS at 35 would have around a .700 OPS at 36? It's not like his team paid for him to leave, despite him being a team leader, and them allegedly contending for the playoffs.
2) Our 34-year-old SS who had a .730 OPS over the last 5 years would have a .712 OPS this year?
3) Our 33-year-old, 240-lb first basemen who ruptured his achilles and couldn't hit when he returned last year would still not be able to hit?
4) Our HoF-caliber 2B, who's 34 with degenerative knees, and who has missed 50, 60, and 80 games the last 3 years, would miss 20 games before the all-star break?
5) Our 34-year-old catcher, suspended for performance enhancing drugs after one of the more surprising offensive seasons in recent Phils history, would struggle upon his return?
6) Our young CF, who has the 2nd-lowest ISO of any outfielder in the last 50+ years, would hit only ground balls?
7) The DH we signed to play RF, who had a sub-100 OPS+ over the last 2 years (and an RBI every 8 AB), would suck in RF and have a sub-100 OPS+, and an RBI every 8 AB?

I mean, it's not like Amaro laid $1M on us in Vegas or something -- what should he have done differently this winter? Were you one of the people pushing for BJ Upton?

Clearly the bloom is off the rose with Amaro, even for me. But I feel like this is a pretty natural slide from a great run, all things considered; even as bad as the Howard deal looks, it's not like one extra "overpaid" hitter would take this team (that you hate) over the top. Amaro's legacy will hinge on what he does moving forward, imo.

I actually don't think there is much Amaro could have done this offseason to make a huge difference, but that just makes me even more sad. Even with Dom turning into Babe Ruth, things are still pretty crappy. Sorta shows how far south things have gone.

I think Shore's mad b/c he perceives Ruben to have gone with a roster that he hoped would outperform their well-established history, and ignored all evidence to the contrary.
you sure do seem to have a lot of time on your hands to be on this forum? Do you have a job? Are you a shut-in?

I think Shore's gonna act mad regardless of whether there's a reason

seriously though, points 2, 4, 5 and 6 are bunk anyway if that's the case. Jimmy Rollins is having a slow start to the season? Stop the fucking presses

To me the sad part isn't what he kept. Howard, Utley, Rollins- they're Phillies for life and you roll with them. It's the lack of upside of the chips he obtained. Even the one with the "most" upside (Revere) was a stretch.

hoping for the best isnt a strategy. its what you do when you're in a hopeless situation with no alternatives or options.

the move that killed our hopes was the pence trade. we gave away a bunch of trade chips that could have probably helped us land someone like headley last winter. im not really missing any of those guys, i think they all have their issues, and i dont think cosart is ever going to amount to much. but they are still prospects with value, prospects we could have used to improve the squad far more than the likes of delmon young could improve us.
