The Phillies defeated the Marlins, 7-3, with John Mayberry Jr. hitting a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the 11th. Mayberry had pushed the game into the 11th, hitting a game-tying solo shot in the bottom of the 10th.

The only other game in the past 60 seasons in which the Phillies hit a game-tying home run in extra innings and then followed up with another home run to win the contest came on June 21, 2003, when Jim Thome tied the game with a solo homer in the bottom of the 12th, and Todd Pratt won the game with a two-run homer.

Before Mayberry, the most recent player to hit a game-tying, extra-inning home run and then a game-ending home run was the Orioles' Mike Young, on May 28, 1987. Young tied the contest with a solo shot in the 10th, and then hit a two-run homer in the 12th to give the Orioles an 8-7 victory.

For the Phillies, Mayberry's slam was the first to come in the 11th inning or later since Dale Murphy hit an 11th-inning game-ender on Aug. 6, 1991.

What a glorious game. I drove up from Richmond with two buddies (one a Sawx fan) for the Saturday and Sunday games. It was a Pedro start, and IIRC that was only because the Friday game was a rainout. My friend talked so much shit after the Sawx took the lead in the 13th.

So, Dom has hit HRs in 7 out of the past 10 games. A friend of mine was at the last two games where he DIDN'T hit one. So if he doesn't go to any more games, he'll hit 120 HRs, right?

no surprise that Kyle Scott wants Wertz 2009 production from Brown (thanks to old friend Barry Jive calling him out). Through their first 205 career games (not counting day), Dom has higher OPS, more HR and RBI.

I remember that game. I had the Inquirer sports section front page from the next day pinned to my cube at work for a while; the headline was "Pratt's Bat Sinks Sox". /coolstorybro

Revere's OPS is .567

Dunno what I was expecting it to be, but after all the posts about how since May 1 XYZ lovely thing was true about Revere, I was kind of expecting something less shitty

He got up to .600 on May 21st, but he's only hit .192 since then with 2 walks and 1 XBH. Looked like he was starting to turn it around, but the last two weeks he's been real shitty.

Hopefully Charlie is falling back in love with Mayberry. I'd be cool with him starting in center more than he has been recently. Especially if we're facing a LHP.

thanks to dom (and to a lesser extent kratz, jrol, and jberry and some crappy opposition pitching) phils are close 2nd in the league over the past 2 weeks in the park-adjusted wrc+ stat.
best offensive run of the season, and all that despite a league worst team babip of just .265 in that period!

more fun facts...
over the last 30 days, 3rd in wrc+, 1st in iso, 6th in bb rate, 4th lowest k rate.

defense has sucked, though...

If the standard by which Revere is judged is going to be OPS, then he's always going to be found wanting. I have no idea whether he's going to have a consistently good OBP because of his low BB rate. But if he does, steals bases (avoiding stupid mistakes like getting CS at 3B with 0 outs) and plays plus defense in CF, he will have value which exceeds -- perhaps far exceeds -- what his OPS might suggest. Yesterday is a good example: On base 3 times, but with a SLG of only .333.

From 2000-2009, Ichiro had a .434 SLG, which was tied for 257th for the decade. His .378 OBP tied him for 44th. But when his fielding and base running are factored in, his WAR of 46.9 placed him 10th for the decade. I'm not saying Revere is the next Ichiro. My point is simply that there's a lot of potential value in a player without a great deal of power or even a particularly high BB Rate (Ichiro is 5.9% for his career, Revere is 5.9% this year), once you factor in base running, defense and positional value.

Dom's 7th in the Majors for SLG, he's also the only player in the top 10 with a BABIP under .300. The next closest BABIP in the top 10 is Moreland with a .317 everyone else is above .349.

Top 20 for WRC+ too and wOBA.
