Not sure what's better there, the catch or him chugging the beer and getting most of it on him

i love every single persons reaction to that. the dude that was coming down the steps to retrieve it, the kid in the back left, the man and woman huddled under a blanket on the right, his buddy whispering in his ear to chug it. all time gif

One of my favorite things in the world is that JJ Putz has essentially been a dominant relief pitcher every year since 2006... except his one year with the Mets.

He wasn't much good until he turned 29. Look at his K/9 and BB/9 rates during his career. Wonder what happened. Might have learned to throw the split late in his 20s. It was really fun at SAFECO in the 9th when he came in to close out the win back in the day.

Reliefers are a funny game.

The split is definitely what happened. Figured it out and it got hitters off balance.

Nasty one here: http://minnesota.twins.mlb.com/video/pl ... 9&c_id=mlb

According to FanGraphs pitch values, his fastball was the big problem with the Mets, worth -5.8 runs. But he was hurt, and he only threw the split pitch 14.6% of the time, lowest by far of the last few years.

Josh Hamilton is hitting .156 with a 24 OPS +. 13 Ks in 38 PAs.

Early April baseball stats are a funny game.

"The Sandlot" came out in theaters 20 years ago this weekend....wow

TMZ had a story the other day where they said Squints is getting divorced (but not from Wendy Peffercorn)

The Mariners are an absolute parade of can't-miss prospects who missed/are in the process of missing

Justin Smoak
Jesus Montero
Dustin Ackley
Franklin Gutierrez

Meanwhile, they traded Adam Jones for Erik Bedard

It really makes you appreciate how the Phils' run was sparked by prospects who didn't miss, and often became better than they were projected

Utley, Howard, Rollins, Hamels, Madson all lived up to and beyond billing
Chooch was, I think, a non-prospect/org guy who developed into an All-Star

How Bad Will the Phillies Look in the New Jackie Robinson movie "42"?

NOT GOOD: You know that part in the trailer for 42 where Jackie Robinson gets beaned in the face? That happened against the Phillies. You know that part that they’re not showing in the trailer (probably because it’s SO RACIST) that shows Ben Chapman yelling racial epithets at Robinson so much during the first two-games of a three-game series that he received a letter from commissioner Happy Chandler? Chapman was the manager of the Phillies (Fun Fact: The Phils P.R. team had Chapman meet with the black media, “explaining that ‘bench jockeying’ was a rich baseball tradition, that his team called DiMaggio ‘The Wop’ and White Korowski ‘The Polack.’”). You know that thing when Chapman — later, in an effort to fix his public image of “being a giant racist” — posed for a photo op with Robinson but refused to shake his hand, instead opting to awkwardly hold the same baseball bat as him? He was proudly wearing the Phils uni. And by casting the nice-guy Alan Tudyk (Dodgeball, Tucker And Dale Vs. Evil, Suburgatory, Firefly) as Chapman, it somehow looks even worse.
