It's pretty lucky in a lot of ways. If Hamilton is healthy all year he wins HRs by about a dozen.
Cabrera's TC category performance would have been good enough to win the TC only 4 times in the last 44 (post-Yaz) non-TC years in the AL, and 2 of those were in the low-run era of the late '60s. One was this year.
It is by far the worst season statistically of all 12 modern-era TC winners.
A great accomplishment, but at the low end of the greatness scale.

I hate the 'Cabrera should be MVP if he gets the triple crown' crowd but this seems just as silly. 1) Triple crowns rarely ever happen so anytime someone does it is amazing 2) The last triple crown winner only tied in HR so it's more impressive than that one

Triple Crowns are way kewl and he should be MVP. The Angels would have missed the playoffs without Trout, just like the Pirates finishing last with or without Kiner.

I don't mind non Saber achievements getting guys awards. A triple crown is really rare. I don't like the Ted Williams argument because he mainly didn't win during his Triple Crown years because he didn't get along with writers (who gives a crap about that?) and his teams didn't win. One doofus writer left him completely off the ballot that one year. He had team mates that weren't nearly as good get 1st place votes in 1942!!! BBWA always had a lot of jagovs in their ranks.
If you win the Triple Crown, you should almost automatically win the MVP. Especially if your team wins its division and the competitor's does not.
We could just let computers decide award winners but I don't think that's the point of awards.
